3rd Trimester

Fluid, mucas, labor on the way?

Went Thursday AM for my Dr. appt. He did a pelvic exam and nothing was happening (I'm 39 weeks) no dilating, no cervix thinning, he said I hadn't even dropped! I woke up this morning around 6:30 and the pants I slept in were all wet in the croch....smelled like semen actually.

Took my pants off, went back to sleep. Stayed in bed till 10am and when I got up I hit the bathroom and on my way there I felt "a bubble" pop (that's the best way I can think to describe it) I pee'd and when I wiped I had mucus on my inner thigh and toilet paper.

This is my first baby so I'm new to all this. I haven't felt any labor pains, but I just went to the bathroom again and still mucus.

Does this mean labor is on it's way?

  • How much fluid? If you felt a pop or gush and your panites are very wet... your water might have broken. If its just a little mucas then idk.. I have been having more discharge for like a week now.

  • Well my pants were wet before the pop, that came later along with the mucus. I've had increased discharge, but not like this...not to be gross but it looked like someone blew their nose near my crotch!

  • You might have lost your mucus plug.

  • I'd have your doctor check to see if you're leaking amniotic fluid, just in case.

  • I am actually scheduled to see my Dr. tomorrow morning so I will definately be mentioning this to him

  • If your water broke though, you should go in to get checked today. An infection can develop if you wait too long. I'd put a call into your OB today. Do they have a doctor on call for the evening/weekends that you can talk to? With my DS my water broke in the hospital but it felt like a pop and a big gush.

  • I would bet it was your mucus plug, but would call your OB just in case.

  • I've been having this for a week or so now. I feel like my underwear are constantly damp/wet. I was checked on Thursday, and it's not amniotic fluid. I've also had a TON of mucus.

Since I'm over 40w, I can only hope it's a sign labor is starting, although I'm scheduled for an induction this week.
