How long did you push for?

I was totally unprepared to push for so long.  I thought he would be out in 15 minutes.  I pushed hard and didn't miss one contraction for 2 and a half hours.  My contractions at that point were hardly a minute apart.  I also pushed out an almost 10 pound baby (9 ponds 13 oz) but it was just a lot harder than I thought it would be.

Re: How long did you push for?

  • I pushed for about 2, but he wouldn't come, so I wound up with a c-section anyway.

  • I pushed for 2 hrs and 45 minutes. I also wasnt expecting to push that long. I felt like I was just doing it wrong the whole time. LO was induced 3 weeks early so I think he just wasn't ready to come out. He was born with his umbilical cord in his hand so I joke that he was hanging on for dear life in there.

  • I think I was lucky. This is my first and I pushed for 25 mins. I held off as long as I could before pushing though because I was waiting for my doc to get out of surgery. In the end I couldn't wait to push any longer and the oncall dr had to come in!

This was me too. He was too big and facing the wrong way.

  • I pushed for 3.5 hours, My water broke before I was effaced or dilated so I had to be induced after not getting my own contractions for 24 hours. My body was not ready for labor so I think it's why I pushed for so long. That and I had so many darn drugs that I couldn't feel to push so that added a lot of time to my pushing.

This. After 40 hours of labor, I pushed like my life depended on it! The MW, the nurse, and my husband were impressed. :) (I expected it to take much longer!)

    It's a boy! Born 42 weeks, 2 days.

  • DS #1: 1.5 hours

DS#2: Less than 3 minutes... two contractions and they counted to 10 a total of 5 times. AND he was 8/11 with a 14.5" head (and I'm 5'3"/140 lbs). Crazy!

    Son #1: 12.27.08 (6 years)
    Son #2: 02.06.12 (2.5 yrs)
    Baby #3 due: 02.10.15 (It's a girl!)

  • I pushed for an hour and a half, but it wasn't that bad. My contractions were irregular at that point, so I was doing 2-3 in a row and then getting a 5-7 minute break in between.

  • w/ DD #1 - a little over 3 hours (induction w/ epi.. 9lbs 2oz)

    w/ DD #2 - a little over an hour (induction w/ epi... 7lbs 14oz)

w/ DD #3 -  didn't even push... i went into natural labor & was at the hospital for a little over 10 mins & they wouldn't let me push because the doctor wasn't there yet... the contractions pushed her out anyway after about 5 mins... lol (8lbs 15 oz)
