Hello, Bumpies! Been out for a few days? I posted in Wednesday?s Random Comments thread that I thought I might have been in labor? I was. I timed contractions for about 4 hours and was still (oddly) uncertain that I was in actual labor because they were so inconsistent; ranging anywhere from 3-10 minutes apart. Then they started getting stronger, so I decided to go in after I put DS1 to bed.
I made it to L&D by 10pm, had a bed by 10:22. There was a lady in the room on the other side of my wall moaning and yelling, and I remember thinking ?That poor woman.? (Ha?) Contractions were getting more than uncomfortable; I was starting to need to breathe through them. The nurse checked me and I was at 5 cm, nearly 100% effaced. Water had still not broken. She watched my contractions for an hour, since I told her I wasn?t sure, then they said ?Yep, you?re staying,? and hooked me up to fluids. Well, by this point it was starting to get pretty damn hard to talk through a contraction, and they decided to hook up both bolus? of fluids so I could get them done and call for the epi quicker. By 12:45 they called the anesthesiologist, he arrived at 1:20 am. (Yes, I was keeping track. I needed that epi!) I thought it was odd that he put the epi about 2 inches lower than it was placed last time, but didn?t say anything. (My effing mistake!) It worked immediately- BELOW my knees!! And all of my very painful contractions were in my lower belly and upper thighs? not freaking good! Ten minutes after I begged them to dial it up; they said they couldn?t. They checked me at 2am and I was 8 cm- they called the OB and I called H, thinking he had time to get there. (I had him stay home with DS1 so the kid could sleep.) Yeeeaaahhh?.
By 2:10 I was in horrific pain. Sorry, but it?s the truth. It was awful. I was that lady I pitied earlier and all of you have cringed at on TLC birth shows- moaning, cursing and partially crying my way through each contraction. I even told the nurses that if they?d just cut off my legs at the hips., I?d be GOLDEN. I was in so much pain that I had sweat ALL of my deoderant off (yes; I was thinking about how much I stank during contractions to try and take my mind off them) and was shaking like a low-blood-sugared diabetic. OB walks in while I?m having a contraction and asks if I had an epidural; they tell her I did and it failed. She came over, checked me and broke my water, then said ?You can push whenever you want.?
H wasn?t there, but I was NOT about to wait. It was 2:30. I mentally said ?Fack it, I?m pushing.? And pushed through as fast as I could and as hard as I could. I heard a pop, felt the head. Pushed again, felt the shoulders, then he was out. No pain, no Ring of Fire- just SWEET mutherfudgin? RELIEF!! OB placed him on my belly, all white and covered in vernix still, and I said ?Thank God you?re out! Hello, Victor!? H was still not there, so I cut the cord (which was actually kinda cool, except I was shaking so hard from the pain still). Victor Raven was born at 2:34 am weighing 7.49 lbs and 19? long. He was perfect.
H arrived about 2:45, and I know he was sad to have missed the birth- but I?m actually glad he did because DS1 would have been freaking out if he?d seen me in that kind of pain. He got to hold Victor and take pictures while the nurses told him that I did so well, how fast the delivery was, and that I?d done it pretty much med-free. And with no tearing! Score one for Mom.
I think that?s everything? BFing has been difficult; yesterday Victor didn?t want to latch and lost half a pound. Then between 12-4am all he did was nurse. I haven?t slept much- maybe a total of 3 hours since Wednesday night. Seriously. I?m surprised at how good I feel though. Considering everything, I feel almost normal.
OH- Lucian seems to love Victor. He gives him kisses and 'pets' him like he would a kitty, completely unprompted. It's awesome, and truly makes me feel that V is supposed to be here. He's meant to be in our family, and I can't wait to see them grow up together.
Thanks for reading! I'll post some pics later when I don't have a baby in my arms.

OMG Ferg, what a story!!! Dude, you are such a champ. I hope if my epidural fails I can power through the pushing like you did. Huge congrats to you and your family, I can't wait to see pics! Welcome to the world, Victor!!
Congratulations! Sorry you had to go through all that pain...
I think it's so cool you named your sons Lucian and Victor (like Underworld)!
Ha, thanks! We didn't do it because of the movies, but everyone thinks we did. :
Pushing was actually better feeling than the contractions- At least then I could concentrate my energy on doing something productive!
Also, I forgot to add... I forgot how soft newborns are! He's like the softest thing in the world, and I love it. I think with V I'm remembering the thing I took for granted with L... the soft skin, little fingers and mouth, cute little squeak noises when he's hungry... I love it all.

Sorry hubby missed out on the experience, but you did an awesome job.. and I swear this is probably the first birth story that actually had me laughing. Good for you, you did an awesome job and kept your sense of humor to boot. Looking forward to pics
Oh wow, you poor thing (for both the failed epi and DH not being there)! I'm glad it went quickly, and I absolutely love the image you painted of Lucian's reaction to his little brother. How sweet! Congrats, Mama!!
