DD #1 has a new trick. She points to her dirty diaper, indicating that she wants/needs it changed. She will also sometimes walk over to the drawer where diapers are kept, remove a diaper (or 3 or 4 or 5), and then pull the changing pad off the couch and on to the floor. Sometimes she lies down on the pad too. She "lies down" on her tummy with her bottom up in the air, so it's not quite diaper-changing position but it is awfully cute.
I'm of the opinion to wait until a child is really ready before potty-training and am in no big rush to potty train.
But-- I do take that this is a good sign that she is aware of her dirty diapers and realizes that she needs a new diaper.
How old was your little one when they engaged in this kind of behavior? Am I reading too much into this? It's really cute, but should we be breaking out the potty seat?
Re: pointing at a dirty diaper
Comparing my 2 girls, I'd say it's encouraging. Abby didn't make any kind of connections with potty and her diaper or the need to be changed until almost age 3. She either didn't care or wasn't putting 2 and 2 together. Emily was always very aware and is now almost completely potty trained. She even pooped today without asking to be put on the potty or anything. She called me from the bathroom for help wiping.
Nothing wrong with having the potty out and starting letting her be in the bathroom and telling her "pee pee goes in the potty" etc. I'm super excited about not using diapers anymore. And it's not because of the cost. I like it because I don't have to worry about being out of them and the enviromental impact.
Thanks, Taytee. 18 months just seemed really early for this behavior. DD #1 has never before cared about her diaper being dirty or wet, and I was surprised that she suddenly seemed aware of something happening in her diaper.
It would be awesome to be done with diapers with at least one kid. We fill up a diaper ge n ie about every other day.
