Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Mom's of big eaters come in!

I'm just curious how much you are feeding you LO.  I've asked before but my DS is a big eater and I'm just curious how he stacks up among other big eaters.  He has been waking up hungry the past few nights (he normally sttn) so I'm thinking I need to up his solid intake but I feel like he is already eating more than most his age, maybe?

Oh and if you say half a jar or a jar, are you talking about stage 1 or 2 because the size is different!  Thank you :)

Re: Mom's of big eaters come in!

  • DS eats

    8 oz bottle

    3 oz food

    6 oz bottle

    3 oz food

    6 oz bottle

    4-5 oz of food

    8 oz bottle

Oh, and I make his food, so really oz=cubes of food (ice cube tray)

    :-)

  •  today is looking like this probably

    5am 8oz bottle

7:30 half a pouch of puree with 3 baby spoon scoops of yogurt and some puffs

    9am 6oz bottle

    nap from 9 to 10:45

    1pm 6oz bottle

3/3:30pm most likely a whole pouch of his favorite sweet potato, apple and corn puree

4/4:30 6oz bottle (actually trying to lower it to 4oz or seeing if he can go without, sometimes he will go without, sometimes 4oz is fine or sometimes he will cry for the extra 2 oz I just do what he says!)

    7:30 bedtime 8oz bottle

trying to work towards lowering the formula a little and increasing to a 3rd solid meal around 9 months

  • I can't tell you how much J takes in during his nursing sessions since I don't pump anymore, but it's usually 6-8 mins total. We've been on solids for 2 months now and progressed at somewhat of a rapid pace per Drs suggestions since he wasn't gaining weight as quickly as they liked.

    6 am: nurses

8am: around 1/4-1/2 cup of food (usually an oatmeal or rice cereal mixed with fruit&yogurt)

    10 am: nurse

    12noon: 2.5 oz meat, 4 oz fruits/veggies

    2pm: nurse

    4pm: 2.5 oz meat, 4 oz fruits/veggies

    6pm: nurses

That's really a guestimate. Somewhere in that mix of fruits/veggies there's an avocado everyday..yes, most of the time it is an entire avocado. J easily eats at least a cup of food everyday, sometimes more.

  • DS has a 7oz bottle and 3  1-ounce cubes of food at 7, 11, 3, and 6:30 (approx).  If I give him solids first he turns his head away from his bottle!

  • DS eats 24-27 ounces of formula per day (4 bottles).

For breakfast he eats a handful of blueberries, 1/4 cup oatmeal mixed with some banana or other fruit.

For lunch he eats some toast (almost a full slice) and either a fruit or veg.  Sometimes we will give him an egg (scrambled) instead of the toast.

For dinner he eats a TON of food.  We usually start with 2 oz of puree and then finger foods of whatever we're eating.....Pasta, chicken, veggies, fish, chick peas, fruit etc.

Everyone always comments on how much this little guy will eat.  I usually try and restrict his intake somewhat because otherwise he becomes a little gassy.

  • 5am - 7oz bottle

8am - 4oz mixture of yogurt and fruit puree

    11am - 7oz bottle

1pm - 4oz of veggie or veggie/meat puree with handful of cheerios

    2pm - 7oz bottle

4:30pm - 4oz of veggie, fruit, or meat/veggie puree.. or I may just feed him a handful of pasta/shredded meat/veggies/fruit.. basically whatever I have on had and that looks good, along with some more cheerios.

    7pm - 7oz bottle

For his "dinner," if he is feeding himself and doesn't look like he's eaten too much (sometimes more ends up in his lap or on the floor), I will give him 4oz just to keep him full until his last bottle.
