Babies: 6 - 9 Months

S/O naps- anyone with LO still taking 4 naps?

My LOs are still taking FOUR naps a day, 3 that last about 30-45 minutes (usually 8am, 11am, and 5:30pm) and 1 that tends to be longer (2pm). I think DSs are moving toward going down to 2 or 3 naps, as occasionally that will happen any given day. They sleep well at night, but life would be much easier if we moved toward 2 longer naps. I'm following their lead but hoping that's the direction we're headed. Anyone else with a LO still taking 4 naps?
TTC for 3 years. Finally successful after 5 IUIs and 2 cycles of IVF. Our amazing twins were born 5 weeks early on 8/16/11. Found out April 2012 that our di/di twins are ID.

  • I just switched over to this board, so hello!  I was just noticing how many people post about the number and length of naps.  I apologize for using your post for my own question, but just wondering if there's some rule about naps?  I actually am not sure how many naps my LO takes per day, we're not on a schedule.  As long as he stays a happy baby and keeps STTN, I figure why schedule?  I let him sleep when he's tired.  But I'm starting to feel like I should be monitoring??  :)

  • DD takes 4 just like yours. She is preemie so her sleeping and naps are not quite a 6 month olds.

If I had a singleton, I think I'd be the same way! I actually did just what you are saying for the first few months, but it got a little crazy with 2. I'm not a strict scheduler, so the numbers I gave are serious approximations of times and can vary as much as an hour or even 2 depending on the day, how they are acting, etc. From my perspective, as long as you're both happy and sleeping, do what works for you. I just know from doing some reading that many babies in this age range start to move toward 2 naps.

The 4 naps my LOs are taking really isn't a big deal, as they are happy and sleeping well. But...while they sleep fine in their cribs at night, they still sleep for naps in their RnPs (REFUSE their cribs during the day!). At 21+ pounds, they are getting close to the 25 pound limit for the RnPs. Addressing that napping situation would be a little easier if I was only doing it twice a day instead of 4 times!

BTW, thanks for the compliment about my LOs. I think they're pretty precious, too! Smile

  • LO was up unitl a few days ago when I started doing the baby whisperer 4 hour schedule. The first day was tough becasue I thought I was keeping him up too long but now he is napping for 1.5 to 2 hours for his morning and mid day nap and today he did not need the evening catnap at all. He seems alot happier having longer naps than 4 catnaps a day

  • Around 6 months my DD cut back from 4 naps to 3 naps on her own. It was like overnight, she was suddenly able to stay up longer. Went from going down for a nap every 1.5 hours to every 2 hours and that pushed out the extra nap and we went to an earlier bedtime. I just follow her cues and go with it.
