Oy Vey, birth month board newbs "hoping for twins"

My birth month board has a few crazies that are hoping for twins. Even after an ultrasound they are doing research about how the ultrasound could be wrong or the twin could be hiding. I have so many things I want to respond to these threads, but I just close them and move on. What is wrong with people? I hope one of them comes over and asks about conceiving multiples so you all can tear him/her a new one :) I feel so unsupported over there LOL.

Re: Oy Vey, birth month board newbs "hoping for twins"

  • leave the crazies with the crazies : )

i never wished for a multiple pregancy.... after IF and seeing my friends who have twins i was like "no thanks, dont want the possible complications." even when i was pg with my son, it was a great, easy pregancy but i couldnt imagine having two in there.  i just dont get it how some people think it's so much fun.

now after i learned i was having twins i was obsessed with both of them being okay.  but i was never like "oh this is hearts and flowers and going to be so much fun.". i was/am constantly worrying about something going wrong.  now that im almost 32 weeks, i feel they will be okay, but now im embracing a whole other set of worries (like how life will be once they get here!!)

  • I am one of the crazies that wanted twins, becasue it was our last IVF transfer & last 2 blasts left EVER!

Of course I wanted both babies! I know it wouldn't be all puppy dogs & rainbows, but I still hoped & wished twins & I dont think it makes me crazy. (well maybe a bit sometimes)

  • I don't think going through IF and wanting multiples is that crazy. My twins are the result of IVF (#2), and so is my singleton (IVF #4). What I think is crazy is assuming the u/s tech is too stupid to detect a second sac in there and maybe you'll find out when you are 28 weeks along that one was hiding.

That might very well be the definition of crazy :)

I think your "hoping" is a little different. You're exempt from the wrath. Smile.

Although if these people really think twins are hearts and flowers, they should have been at my house this morning for the epic twin meltdown over a damn kiwi. Two toddlers screaming at the top of their lungs, collapsed on the floor like they have no bones, and trying to kick anything they could reach. Good god.

  • Niki - it's because they see pics your adorable twins and think how fun it would be!  What they don't see is the difficult high risk pregnancy, and all the craziness that comes along with caring for 2 babies at a time.  I give the side eye to people hoping for twins, but I definitely agree they are crazy town for thinking they may still be having twins even after an u/s!
  • My BMB got so annoying for a couple weeks because all of these people started getting u/s that revealed twins.  Then it became a "OMGEEE don't drink the Sep 2012 water....you'll get twins."  And people commenting that our board had more twins than any other board...which is funny b/c August was claiming the same thing.

So then all these people were getting nervous for their u/s because they might see twins, or because they had gained more weight, etc... It was really silly.

You know half the people aren't having twins.

This made me laugh. I love the "I've gone floppy" tantrums. Combined with the screaming while scooching across the kitchen floor on my back by kicking my feet until my head hits a wall/cabinet and I cant go anywhere so I'll cry harder cause now my tantrum has been disrupted. Sigh.

  • I meant to click on "Natural Birth" board and hit yours by mistake....I've been entertained for the last 30 minutes!

Your board is so much fun!  I thank everything holy in the world that I'm not having twins--we knew with the fertility stuff that it was a possibility. I kept having these dreams that there were 2 or 3 babies in there and I was soliciting my friends trying to get someone to buy an "extra" baby.  It was horrible!  FYI, I would not really have attempted to give away a baby. :-)  I was just so scared with the reality of one baby, the thought of more than 1 was terrifying.

I have a set of twins in my family and remember how rough it was when they were toddlers...all of you women with twins are like goddesses.  I can't even imagine how crazy it can get.

I know it's not funny in the moment, but you made me laugh. I know these days are just around the corner for us, and I can't help but shake my head and wonder how dramatic these little ones will be sometimes.

On the side of the original topic, I was with a lot of you guys. Dealing with IF was really hard on me emotionally. DH and I knew that our chances at twins was a little increased (strictly genetically speaking on both sides of our families. He's actually an identical, and they run every generation in mine) and he told me afterwards that he wasn't surprised at all when we found out we were having two. I really don't think I was either, I was kind of relieved and worried all at the same time. I don't feel like I exhaled until I got to see both the girls after they were born. I still can't believe how blessed I am to have two healthy babies now.

I also agree with the PPs, I think they're all just really jealous of how adorable your two are. ;)

The only good thing about two babies throwing themselves on the floor, screaming and kicking, is that it is kinda funny to watch! There's something sort of cute about two of them doing it at the same time. It's double the drama! Mine just started this though, so I'm sure it won't be cute for too long!!!!

  • I will say that after the shock, we were definitely pleased to have twins.  Didn't have IF specifically, but lost two babies on our previous tries.  I don't have any delusions about it being easy, but I also don't about being a mom of little ones in general (it's not like having a singleton is all puppies and rainbows either, depends a LOT on the kid).  I wouldn't have "tried" to have twins (whatever that means, extra sex?  ha) but I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting them.

Now, expecting that your tech just didn't pick one up is the dumb part, agreed all around :)  It was way past obvious at 6w that I had two heartbeats in there, and I'm no U/S tech!

On July 2012, we thought we had the most sets of twins ever, too. It actually was uncanny how many sets of twins were reported during first tri. Most of them were spontaneous and it seemed well above what you would expect statistically. I still don't know quite what to make of it.

    IUIs #1-3 (1x unmedicated, 2x Clomid) = 2 BFNs, 1 m/c at 7w3d
    IUIs #4-6 (injects) = 3 BFNs
    IVF #1 = BFN
    FET #1 = BFN
    FET #2 = BFN
IVF #2 = BFP, b/g twins lost at 20w due to partial abruption/PPROM
    IVF #3 = c/p 5w2d
Long-shot Clomid/Prednisone cycle before next IVF = BFP, our beautiful, healthy girl born 6/26/13!

  • I wonder about this statistically being more twin moms in certain months... I think it may have to do with the fact that MoM's may be more likely to come to the bump to seek out help and advice since everything is x2.  Who knows!

Several people on that board made comments about "drinking the water" before you found out about your twins - I actually remember your post and that wasn't one of the comments I was referring to.  You were playing off the previous comments.

As far as the bolded part...for God's sake...how would you get THAT from me saying half the people aren't having twins?  Honestly, my mouth dropped when I read that because it's such an incredible jump...what a horrifying thing to think.  I didn't say "half the people won't end up with twins" - and I never would.  That's a disgusting and horrible thing to say.

What I meant is half the people that posted about twins are newbs - and likely faking a multiples pregnancy.  We get that a ton on here.  There's been quite a few people that posted that they were having twins with new accounts and we haven't heard much from them again.

FWIW, I don't think you're a faker - it's pretty obvious -  and I really hope you come back and read this since I just saw it today.

As someone new to the Multiples board, I was unaware of just how prevalent purported or bogus MoMs are around here. That definitely explains why it seemed that you were annoyed not only by the "I'm showing so early, it must be twins" comments, but also by the seemingly legit twins posts.

As far as the bolded comment above goes, I'd hoped no one would be so cavalier, and I said that I was assuming that wasn't your meaning. I never expected or prepared for twins, but now I'm greedy for these babies and absolutely worried out of my mind that something will happen to one or both of them. My OB even went so far as to advise that we not tell anyone yet, as Vanishing Twin Syndrome is a distinct possibility. I apologize for putting it out there at all-- I'm obviously projecting my insecurities on you, and that isn't fair.

I hope we can clear the air. I'm desperately wishing to stay here; I know that if I can, I'll certainly benefit from and value everyone's advice and expertise.

I sent you a PM right after I posted and paged you on the Sep 12 board - wasn't sure which one you were on most.

    No harm here!

Regarding VTS - the only reason it's increasing is b/c of the increase of multiples and u/s technology.  A doctor suggesting you wait to announce because of VTS is like one suggesting that you wait to announce until you're out of first tri - KWIM?  Try not to give VTS a second thought.  Easier said than done.
