3rd Trimester

Are you setting up baby gear before baby arrives?

Just wondering if you are setting up baby gear before baby arrives? Or are you waiting until baby is home?

I.e. stroller, baby bouncer, swings, etc.

We have the nursery ready, furniture set up, baby blankets and clothes washed, everything organized and in its spot. We live in a condo, so we are waiting until baby is here before we take the stroller out of the box, set up the bouncer chair, activity mat, etc.

Are you waiting or is your house already 100% baby ready?

  • Everything is set up except the PnP. My husband will probably get that finished while I'm still in the hospital or right after we get home.

  • We have the stroller out and will start getting the bouncer and things out just so we can start teaching our 1 year old puppy what is his and not his.

  • Work's been busy and I've been traveling a lot so I haven't had time to do much. My shower was this past Saturday but I had to leave yesterday morning for another trip so we basically just shoved the gifts in the baby's room until we have time to sort through them. The crib, dresser, and glider are being delivered the beginning of next week, though, so I'll have to clear out the room before than. Other than that, we'll at least put together the stroller and pack n play before going to the hospital. If the rest isn't put together by then, I'm not too concerned considering they're not necessities for the first week or two that the baby's home.

  • I'm not as far along as you, but everything will be set up.  We did the same with DD and DS.  I'm kind of a control freak, plan everything type of person.  :)

  • Yes, it is all set up (because I have vivid memories of desperately putting the swing together at 3am one night with DS1, lol)

  • Aww. :) I wish I had stuff to set up!! Everything is out and about because our first daughter is only 13 months so everything she uses our new one will use too. Have fun setting up though!

  • WE are setting up before arrival.  The PnP is set up and in our gym, as well as the swing and our stroller, we are waiting for my seat covers to arrive then the carseat is going into my car.  All items are basically out of the box and set up in our gym(except potty seat and highchair) since we can't use these right away.

  • We have everything out and ready but part of the reason for that is our 4 year old yorkie. She was getting a little anxious with all the new stuff for the baby, so we put it up so she could get used to all of it. Seems to have helped, though she's still afraid of the swing if something knocks it and makes it move.

wow! You're super organized to already have the potty and highchair! We aren't buying these until baby is big enough to use them...he's our 2nd baby but with a 7year gap, so we are starting from scratch with baby items.

I kinda feel like I should be setting up some of the gear after reading everyone's posts about being prepared! Guess hubby has a to-do list this weekend ;)

  • We have a cat and dog that are super curious, so we're setting stuff up (bouncer, swing) and leaving it out around 36 weeks to get them used to it. I fear that if I take it right out of the box and put LO in it, they'll be freaked out by the item or its smell or something and want to inspect it with LO in it.

    This exactly!

Same here. Everything is set up besides the bassinet, which I'm hoping we get set up this week so the dogs can get used to it being in the room.

  • We don't have the car seats installed or the stroller set up, but we did put together the pack and play, swing, and rock and play.  We did it more so that I can wash everything and so that our puppy can get used to seeing everything and realizing what is his and what isn't.

  • We set everything up around 36/37 weeks when I was pregnant with DD. We will probably do the same this time. I'm wondering how DD will react to all her old stuff. I can picture her trying to climb in the swing! ha
  • We have about half of the things set up.  We decided to do a little at a time so it wasn't so overwhelming.  We are leaving a few things for when my parents come to visit right before she is born that way they can be a part of the fun too!
  • all i have set up is the pack n play (which DD will be sleeping in in our bedroom until we move in July). i set it up as soon as it arrived a few weeks ago because hubby and i were excited, and we had to figure out exactly where we wanted it anyway.

i don't actually have anything else...
my parents are visiting a few days after my daughter is born and they will bring a hand-me-down rock n play. i registered for a swing that i may or may not get.

we won't be buying a crib or changing table until we move into a bigger place in a few months, so there really isn't much to set up.

i'm more concerned about having all the toiletry-type items and enough clothes that i'm not constantly doing laundry. oh, and diapers. i'm sure i need more diapers.

  • We are going to have everything set up before baby comes but that's mainly for the dogs.  We plan to use the swing a lot, turn on the mobile, all that kind of stuff so that the dogs get used to the baby stuff (and we plan to take them on walks with the stroller, take them for car rides with the car seat, etc.)

We are setting up as much as possible for the same reason.

  • I have everything set up, for the most part.

I remember coming home with my DD, and I needed to put her down for minute, and I was like "Where do I put her?!?" Just thinking back about that made me laugh. So I'd definitely have a swing or bouncer or something set up where you feel comfortable placing baby if you need both of your hands. Eventually, of course, I'd just put her on a blanket on the floor, etc., but it felt so foreign and odd to do that with a 2-day old!

  • Pretty much!  The swing needs batteries but everything else we need is ready to go.  We still have not hung up pictures in the nursery and the convertible car seat and high chair are still in their boxes in the attic until we are ready from them.  I am washing the bottles today!

  • We have some items out in order to get our dog more comfortable with them - the bouncer, baby tub, stroller, etc.  The nursery is ready - we need to do some babyproofing in other rooms - but we know we have a bit of time to tackle some of these tasks. And once we finish steam cleaning the carpet this weekend, the PnP will be set up in our bedroom.  I joke with my DH we need to put an addition on the house for all of the baby stuff alone.

  • Everything is set up already and partly b/c I received the pnp and swing at yardsales.  Besides the carseat I think I will be needing the pnp and swing in the first week.

  • We have everything set up (i.e. stroller, swing, and even a bouncer,) except for the things we don't have yet, like a car seat and carrier, etc. But we have our shower next sunday... so we'll see.

  • Yep, definitely have things set up. It's been a fun way to prepare our 18 month old a little. We thought it'd be good to get him used to seeing everything around before baby's here.

  • I just go ahead and set everything up as I get it- partly because I'm so excited to see it, and partly because I figure I won't have time for that kind of thing when he's actually here. I can't see myself being all sleep-deprived and between feedings, trying to assemble a baby swing. I'm even going to put together the Jumperoo I got at my shower last weekend, even though I bet he won't be able to use that until he's at least 4 or 5 months old!
  • So far our crib, changing table and stroller are set up. We will set up the dresser this weekend and set up the swing, bouncer, PnP, etc at 34 weeks so the puppy and cat can get used to it.

  • I want to be as ready as possible... I figure better set it up now when I do not have a little baby demanding most of my time.
  • we are... haha... we already have the high chair in the dining room! (haha... this one is just temporary and we'll pack it away this week, but we were just so excited to recieve it and make the whole thing seem even more "real"!)

  • Yes, it's all set up and ready to go. I don't want to have to worry about it when it gets closer to L&D... plus I can relax knowing it's all done...

  • We have everything set up... I just figured that way we wouldn't have to worry about putting things together and finding a place for them once LO is home.  Now I have everything done and each thing has it's own place.  =)

  • I haven't set up my nursery, either, but i plan on having everything we will definitely use all ready to go.

Some advice from my cousin, though: DON'T wash all your clothes right away. There's no telling exactly what size your LO is going to need, so just have some onesies washed and ready to go until you know their sizing for sure. My cousin washed everything right away and had it all ready to go, but her baby grew so fast that her LO didn't even wear all of the clothes she had taken the tags off and washed. She could have returned the ones he didn't wear for a bigger size, but instead she's stuck with the unreturnable clothes that were never worn.
