Dropping a nighttime feeding, FF baby

Ladies,

We've been into our bedtime routine for quite some time now. DD gets a bath, lotion, sleepy bottle (5-6 oz) and in her crib between 7:30-8:00. Every night she wakes up around 12 and 4 for feedings. I feed her 4 oz at these times. Ideally, she'd drop the 12:00 feeding. Is there any way to help this process along?

Sincerely,

Sleep Deprived Single Momma

  • Give her a paci and see what happens? When I dropped the 3 am feeding it took a couple of times to soothe him. The very next night he slept right through it.

  • You could probably more easily drop the 4:00 feeding if you were to give LO another good size bottle at midnight, change her and put her back down.

My DD eats her last bottle (4-6 oz. usually) around 11:30 or 12:00 and then sleeps through the night usually until 7 or 8.

  • Try adding a tiny bit of rice cereal to her sleepy time bottle. She will stay fuller, longer and hopefully sleep longer so as to skip the 12:00am feeding. Good luck!

  • DD started to STTN when we upped her oz during the day and more before bed. Try to offer 6-7oz let her take what she wants. I wouldn't feed her in her crib because she may fall asleep before she is really full. DD puts herself to sleep. We put her in her crib when she seems sleepy with her paci and she pets her hair until she falls asleep. It is up to you baby though. Some babies just aren't ready to STTN and need that feeding.

  • We also up'ed the oz during the day and he cluster feeds in the evening.  During the day he goes every 3 hrs. and starting late afternoon he'll go 2-2.5 hrs.  We also went from 4 oz to 5, 6 oz in his first bottle in the am after sttn (10 hrs).  We do a bedtime routine like yours also except he only takes 3-4 oz at bedtime bc he has usually had 5 oz 1.5-2 hrs prior to that.  But he has reflux so we try to not fill him up to much right before he's going to lay down.  When we began to phase out nighttime feedings we first decreased the amt we gave LO when he woke.  Then I started doing a dreamfeed around 1030 (he goes down to bed b/t 730-8).  That took care of the 12 feeding.  He just recently dropped the 400 one on his own for the most part. GL!

I wouldn't do this, you are just adding empty calories in place of ones she actually needs.

This is the reason I haven't tried rice cereal despite all of the "advice" I have been given from family members. I don't really want to take that kind of risk, especially not without talking to my pedi.

She's at daycare all day so I could tell them to up her feedings from 5oz to 6oz and see how that goes? She's pretty consistent on time between feedings, about every 3 hours (like clockwork!). What time does your LO start cluster feeding? I have thought about this too and then doing a Dreamfeed around 10:30. I'm hoping to give it a shot tonight!

He really only clusters the last feeding.  I'll give him 5 oz around 6-6:30, then he stays up until bath time around 7-730.  We put pj's on and rock and give him his last bottle which is 4 oz., so it's usually around 1.5-2 hrs since his last full feeding.  Before he was consistently sttn he would only take about 2-3 oz bf bed then another 3 oz at his dream feed.  Now he chugs down the full 4 oz bf bed and is out till 7 am!
