question on dose of meds and relationship to follies

Hi there Fellow Bumpies,

I was wondering if there is anyone else who has had to, or is having to, take such high doses of injectables because their ovaries were not responding.  I'm 43, and trying to conceive again. I was 41 when I had my daughter via IVF.

My first 8 days of meds yeilded no response (E2 = <20).  Then for the next 3 nights, meds were increased from 425/225 to 600 gon-f + 225 meno.  Results of E2 was 170, but 4 follies were seen during the sonogram.

I'm happy, but still hesitant to fully get my hopes too high up.  Next test/sono is on Wednesday (2/22/12).

With your experience (even more helpful if age is 40+), did you ever have to (or are you taking) so much stimulation meds, and what were/are your results, please?

I've had other cycles where meds were not quite so high (300/75 - 400/75) and responded normally.

Re: question on dose of meds and relationship to follies

  • I wasn't on a high enough dose of Follistim which resulted in my follies not being mature enough and hardly any of them fertilized.

  • Thank you.  Appreciate your reply.

  • Maybe they're doing it more aggressively since you have had failed cycles? I know my next doses will probably be much higher.

  • Hi there.  I'm sorry you're having a rough go of it.  :(  What's your diagnosis?  I'm DOR and accordingly have been on 600iu each cycle.  The first cycle was long lupron and a combo of menopur and bravelle.  The second cycle was EPP with 600iu follistim and low-dose hCG.  My first cycle was canceled, but with EPP we got 8 eggs at ER, 6 of which were mature and 4 of which fertilized.  Hang in there.  It's not easy, but you can do it!
