DS sleeps in his bouncer, need help pls!

When DS was born we swaddled in pnp. At 2 months he got a cold and was congestioned and would not stay asleep in the pnp, so out of desperation we put in him in his snugabunny bouncer in our room and he slept for several hours, thus a pattern started. Once he got over his cold we tried to put into the pnp and he would wake up as soon as we laid him down. We used to be able to lay him down and he would fall asleep on his own.

So I have been trying to transition him to his crib. I have laid him down asleep, awake, with sleep frog, with the mobile, with the radio. The longest he as slept in his crib is 3 hours, once. I start in the crib every night, but eventually give up I have to be up a 6 am, to get ready for work. I think he likes to be cuddled, because once he is in his crib he kicks and kicks. I don't know if I should get a new sleep sack (he outgrew his other one)? So any suggestions? Sorry so long, TIA

  • It may be a pain but I suggest just continuing with the routine you want to stick with. Put him in the PnP even if he doesn't sleep for long and set up a basic routine for it. My DD used to sleep right in bed with us for the whole night but I've recently had to stop because she rolls over onto her tummy now. It was hard to go back to the bedside co-sleeper because she wouldn't sleep long but after continuously putting her in there she just got used to it. I wait until she falls asleep with us though, and once shes good and sleepy I turn on her Gentle giraffe white noise and lay her in the co-sleeper, sometimes she wakes up when i move her but she's gotten used to the co-sleeper again and will go right back to sleep. You just have to be consistent.

  • If its the incline he's used to you could try a crib wedge so he's in the crib but his head is slightly elevated.
  • Just like he got used to the bouncer he'll get used to the crib. It may be hard but keep doing it. He'll eventually fall asleep.

  • My nephew would only sleep in his bouncer as an infant too.  My sister put her crib on the lowest setting and put the bouncer in the crib (so at least he'd know that the crib is where sleep is supposed to happen).  Then once he was bigger switched him to laying down flat in the crib.  I've read that when you want to change a behaviour, try starting on a thursday or friday so that you can give it all your effort over the weekend.  Sometimes things will improve in a few days and sometimes the new habit needs a week or two to stick.
