Can someone please give me some piece of mind, the date of my last period was Jan. 1st. my cycle is always 28 days so on Jan 31st i took a HPT and it was a very faint positive. My ob-gyn said ok we will see you March 12th, well i went to my primary doc for bloodwork to be sure and on feb. 1st my level was only 23, i repeated it on feb. 5th and it was 122. they said congrats you are about 2 wks pregnant but in reality i should have been 5 right? my ob said oh don't worry we don't even do bloodwork but i am worried, and i don't have many symptoms except bloating and exhaustion. has anyone else had low levels and had everything turn out fine?

Re: positive test but low hcg levels
Well technically when you're "5 weeks pregnant," that really means you're only actually about 2-3 weeks pregnant because they count pregnancy from the first date of your last menstrual period. So they could have meant that it's been about 2 weeks from when you probably ovulated (which would mean you're "5 weeks pregnant" if calculating based on LMP but only "2-3 weeks pregnant" if calculating based on when you ovulated).
Does that make sense?

Your doubling time is about 39-40 hours, which is great (usually they like to see it double every about every 48 hours).
As for how far along, you PCP may have meant you are approximately 2 weeks from conception (in most calculations you are "pregnant" for 2 weeks before you conceive). So 4 weeks pregnant would be 2 weeks past conception. Assuming you did have a perfect 28 day cycle with ovulation at day 14, you would have conceived around Jan. 15, so on Feb. 1 you would have been approximately 2 weeks past conception.

I see no reason to worry about those numbers. My first with DS was 14, a few days later it was 117. (I have no idea how I remember that, but can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday.) Relax and enjoy!
Honestly, this is why I skipped the hcg bloodwork with each pregnancy after DS's. They just cause a bunch of worry, imo, and they don't mean anything in the long run.

I got tripped up on this too when I was pregnant with my first. With DS, they called with my first beta and said you're 1-2 weeks pregnant. I remember I was at work and got off the phone crying because I knew I was about four weeks and I thought that meant something was wrong with the baby. I called one of my BFFs in tears, who explained to me what they probably really meant was 1-2 weeks gestation. She was right.
If the doctor was concerned about your levels, he/she would've said so.
