11 month old does not like table foods

I have an 11 month old boy that has started to show a lack of interest in food. The only things he will eat are any kind of bread (crackers, cereal, puffs, bagels), cheese, yogurt and pureed fruit. He won't eat any vegetables and doesn't like any meat. He doesn't even like pasta! Lately when I put him in his highchair and walk towards him with food he cries and turns his head. If I put food on his tray he just plays with it and throws it on the ground. I am assuming it is a texture thing but he will eat some textures so I am confused. The one thing he gets excited about is his formula, he loves his bottle!

I have wasted so much food trying different types and brands and having to throw them away. I've heard kids go through stages with food likes and dislikes. Did anyone else have this problem and then your child started to like different foods and textures?

  • Have you tried some of the sweeter veggies (like sweet potato), or mixing a veggie with a fruit that he likes, like maybe sweet potato mixed with applesauce? I got my LO to eat peas by mixing them with carrots and slowly increasing the pea to carrot ratio...now he loves peas! GL! :)

  • What if you also presented the food in a different way? DD is not a fan of tomatoes, but is of marinara sauce that I make. One thing I found DD loves are some frozen wontons (Trader Joes has an awesome selection of those). They have meat, veggies, pasta, but tastes a little "exotic" and not the norm. It might be a way to get him to eat some meat or veggies :)

  • My 11 month old daughter has the same problem.  Instead of pushing it I figure she'll start eating when she wants.  She loves her bottle also so she drinks mostly formula and then soymilk, yogurt, puffs and pureed fruit for snacks.  She used to love sweet potato and green beans but she's started turning that away... *shrug*

Once in awhile if i give her small pieces of hard boiled egg and cheese then she'll eat it, but only maybe 10 pieces and then she's done.  She isn;t losing any weight so I'm not too worried.  =)

Plus, with me being pregnant again and moving to another town just giving her simple foods like that make life much easier right now.

  • are you a crappy cook? That could be it.Wink Do you cook the foods like you would for yourself, (seasonings etc.) or just plain? I always offer the foods my LO isn't a fan of first, let him eat as much as he wants (or throws on the floor) and then give him the foods he really likes.

I wouldn't be worried if I were you, just keep offering them, it appears that this is pretty common based on the 40 other posts asking the same things.
