Cold Weather Exposure

This may be an incredibly stupid question: Is is bad for a pregnant woman to be out in the cold for a long time?

I usually volunteer at the home track meets at the high school I work at.  Since weather in April (and even May) can be really unpredictable I could be out in 40 degree weather (plus maybe wind or rain) for up to four hours.  I always bundle up but sometimes that wind chills you to the bone no matter how many layers I wear.  Is this something I should forgo this year?

Re: Cold Weather Exposure

  • I think its fine as long as you are balanced with it. I mean, women must be pregnant in Alaska and Greenland(brrr!) and they seem okay. If you get too cold I would head indoors for a break or to the nearest starbucks for a hot chocolate:-)

Pregnancy is the perfect excuse to pace yourself. I think I would be more concerned about staying out that long in Summer heat rather than cold.Just my opinion though- HTH!

  • I would still do this. I don't think that this is dangerous for the baby as long as you do bundle up. It might just be me, but I'm really big on keeping a lot of aspects of my pre-pregnancy life intact. I want to still be me, but be a mom version of me I guess, lol.

This is what I want.  I don't want the coach to think I am using my pregnancy as an excuse not to give him a helping hand (not that I don't abuse this once in awhile with DH).  As long as I don't get any information that it will affect the baby's health I plan on helping.
