Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

2nd pregnancies, did you feel like it wasn't quite as cute?!

I loved being pregnant with my first, love being pregnant now too, but jeez I just feel wide! I am 19 weeks tomorrow and I haven't gained any weight yet but I just feel like I look wide all over, not really pregnant. Is this what happens after you have your first because your body has already been stretched out or am I just lucky?!

  • I DEFINITELY read the title wrong at first and thought that you meant that the baby wasn't as cute!  Boy did I have a LOT to say to you!

But, now that I have my head back on straight and know what you are talking about...

I feel the exact same way!  My hips are a lot wider than they were with my first pregnancy, and my bump is a lot larger at this stage than it was with the first, but it doesn't look as much of a pregnacy bump, but rather just a lot of excess weight, unless I am wearing the right outfit.

Here's hoping that our bumps become a little more cute in the future!  Wink

  • While I didn't love being pregnant with my first, I didn't mind it til I was 36 weeks when I got really uncomfortable.  With this one, I too find that my hips are wider, and my bump is a slightly bigger at this point than it was last time (even though I haven't gained any more or less weight as of this point).  But I'm definitely not loving it this time around!  Chasing a toddler around is certainly taking it's toll on me this time.  My body hurts, already!!! -- and I still have 14 weeks to go!

Haha! That would be terrible!!! I am glad I am not alone! I hope we look cuter soon!

  • I felt that way up until I finally popped at 30 weeks. Now I'm happier because I've gained about half what I did with DD and have so far managed to escape the huge arms and fat face syndrome. We'll see what happens in the next few weeks!

  • Sorry, I'm more of a lurker on this board and have only posted on here once or twice (but I'm def gonna make an effort more- I spend most of my time on Dec mommas board) but with my second, I got HUGE! My first, I was large with, but gained 19 lbs, my second, I looked ready to POP by 6 months, but had such bad morning sickness that I lost weight everywhere else but my belly got much bigger! I only gained 8 lbs from pre-pregnancy weight. So I ended up looking like a chicken with tiny legs and a huge belly and waist lol. Good thing is, i lost my belly faster second time around. I felt much less cute and preggo! It didn't help that everyone kept commenting on how big I was to have that much longer to go! I def think second pregnancies are way different!

  • Oh no, this is not what I want to hear. I'm expecting a bump as cute as last time. Stick out tongue

  • I am currently 35 weeks and *hate* the way I look. I loved the way I looked with DD1, but it's totally different this time around. Although I weigh about the same as I did with my first I just feel so...big.

  • I was hideously ugly with my 2nd. My hips got SO wide, my skin was terrible, and even though I only gained 20lbs I looked fat all over. With my first I was cute and pregnant-small everywhere else but the big belly. I joked that it was because my first was a boy/2nd a girl and the old wives tales say girls steal your beauty. Smile Now a year pp I am back to the way I was before kids (and even smaller!) so there's hope.

  • I was the opposite. With my first I was so swollen and developed pre-e so I looked like the stay puff marshmallow man. Ugh. #2 was nicer to me thankfully. #3 went okay too. My first pregnancy was NOT nice to me:)
  • I loved being pregnant physically both times. I loved the way I looked. My first was amazing, emotionally, because I was so excited.  My second I was so uneasy.

FWIW, even if you meant the second baby wasn't as cute, that's really OK too. There is nothing wrong with not thinking both your babies are as beautiful as the other.  Abby was a way prettier newborn than Olivia and Olivia was a cuter 1 year old than Abby. Abby kind of looks a little boyish right now if she's not in girly colors.

  • I actually felt opposite from you.  Everyone kept saying how I was all belly the 2nd time around.  I think with my DD the weight was more distributed around my whole body, with my DS it was more belly and I gained less weight.

This is me.  Total opposite.  I had pre e and massive swelling/weight gain and HATED how I looked with #1.  While I don't enjoy being pregnant, I look and feel WAY better this time.

  • By this time last pregnancy I was pretty much the same as my non-pregnant self, Now I'm so bloated that I could easily reenact my 24 weeks pics from my last pgcy.

I don't look cute whatsoever and I feel like crap. So yeah, not cute.

I was much more uncomfortable with the second (and started feeling uncomfortable a lot earlier, too). I complained a lot. I didn't feel cute at all.

The first was like NEW! EXCITING! OMG IS THIS A BABY BUMP OR BLOAT?!!11

HAHA yeah I feel like my OB set me up for false hope when we started TTC #2. She said most women don't gain as much weight the second time around. Uhh ... yeah. I'm gaining and not slowing down.

The hips thing I totally relate to. It was bizarre, because my hips seemed to shift the SECOND I became pregnant. My hips were so sore right away and maybe that's why I feel like my arse is as big as a semi truck.

DH took a photo of me bending over the counter the other day and I almost started crying because I looked like such a fatty.
