Success after IF

Has anyone done Micro IVF?

Hi Ladies.  I have had 2, possibly 3, ectopic pregnancies and will be moving on to IVF.  We have no fertility issues other than tubal.  I have no insurance coverage for infertility expenses and my clinic offers Micro IVF for $4k.  I have not gone over the options with my doctor yet as I just got Methorexate this morning for my most recent unsuccessful pregnancy.  I am hoping that someone here has done it and can provide some feedback.  Thank you so much for any feedback you can give me...I am lost right now.
3 ectopic pregnancies (EDD's 1/30/12-tube removed, 6/2/12-methotrexate and 10/2/12-methotrexate)
IVF and Natural FET resulted in BFN's and a hole in our wallets
Natural BFP #4 on 9/7/12 gave us our miracle on 5/18/13

Re: Has anyone done Micro IVF?

  • I'm sorry for your losses.

After my miscarriages I looked into doing Micro IVF because, like you, we had to pay completely out of pocket and our previous IVF had cost over $18,000 and we couldn't afford that again.

The RE told us that she has the best success with unexplained infertility in women under age 35.  At the time I was 38 and dealing with male factor along with having a few issues myself, one of which is that I'm a poor responder to drugs.  Taking those things into consideration we were told that we were not good candidates for the micro procedure.  She said that for a micro IVF she hopes to retrieve 5-7 eggs and I only had 7 retrieved while on maximum doses of stims during my IVF.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the $4,000 won't include the drugs. If you've never used stims before it's really hard to know how your body will respond.  Some women respond to very small doses and others, like me, barely respond to even very high doses.

Have you had any fertility type testing done like FSH, AMH, antral follicle counts?

Hopefully someone will respond who has had issues with tubal pregnancies. Neither of my losses were tubals so I don't have a lot of knowledge on those and how successful IVF is in helping to avoid another tubal pregnancy.

I'm sorry you're feeling so lost.  I've felt like that in the past as well.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • Thank you so much for your response.  I figured that the $4k didn't include the meds and I'm not sure what protocol they follow (oral or injectible).  I think in the many bloodtests they have done they tested my FSH and AMH (or atleast one), but I have not had the follicle count.  I can only hope that I respond well to meds, my RE confirmed that I ovulated from both ovaries.  Hoping that's a good sign.

Unfortunately, IVF does not totally avoid another ectopic, but my eggs can't make it past my tube so this is my only shot.
