I know there have been a few posts about summer clothes shopping recently so I thought I would share that Unique Thrift store is having 50% off everything on Monday for President's day. There's one location in Falls Church and a few in MD. I go to the one in Rockville on Viers Mill. It will be very crowded but that doesn't mean that there aren't great deals to be found.
I know I have mentioned this thrift store in many posts so I wanted to explain why I like it so much. First of all, they have a really big selection. It's not like some of the smaller Goodwill's where their children's section isn't that big. At Unique, the section for babies to 5T is probably a 30 foot wall with a rack on top and a rack on the bottom. Everything is split out for boys vs. girls and by group (dresses, long sleeve shirts, short sleeve shirts, shorts, etc). It does take time to look at the tags to find the size you need but I don't think it takes that long.
My strategy is that I go to Unique at the beginning of the season to get a "base wardrobe" and then I supplement that wardrobe with things from regular stores if I can't find it there. Here are the items that I always get at Unique because they always have a decent selection of these items: summer and winter hats, snow suits, snow boots, bathing suits, fleeces and winter coats. I sometimes buy ahead for these items. For instance, if I see a good pair of boots or a nice coat in a larger size for $3, I'll just get them for a future winter.
So, just to give you an example of a typical shopping day, last weekend, I went there to get DD some 3T summer clothes. I think a lot of her shorts from last year will fit but I needed some new shirts. I was able to get 10 shirts and 4 pairs of shorts for $25 total. A few of the shirts are from the Children's Place and everything was in good condition. It probably took me less than a half hour to find everything. Of course, if I had waited until president's day, this would've only been $12.50 (darn it!).
Re: s/o Clothes Shopping for Summer-Unique Thrift Store 50% off on Monday
They pretty much seem to always have clothes out for all seasons. I think the only items they hold back are holiday items. For instance, I think they hold back Halloween costumes, Christmas stuff, etc. until the actual season. However, I don't think they do that for clothes. For the girl's short sleeve T-shirts there was probably at least a 6 foot pole worth of t-shirts to go through and maybe a little less for shorts. For bathing suits, they probably had about 20 or so. They also had a lot of cute summer hats for sun coverage.
That's probably very true. I haven't spent as much time in the boys section as I have in the girls.
