TMI...I need some chafing relief, ladies!

Ok, so I'm sure that many of you have noticed the insane CM that comes along with pregnancy. But boy did I not expect the wetness...I really don't remember it being this bad last time! :((

So despite frequent trips to the potty and using panty liners, I have been having so much trouble with chafing right at the edge of my underwear line. It's killing me, ladies. Help!

Has anyone else been dealing with this embarrassing and owwie TMI issue? What remedies do you find work best/fastest?!

TIA :-*

  • I hate it when this happens--it gets really painful! I use diaper rash cream for chafing and heat rash. :)

Popular product for that.  We keep some at the house to help DH out in the summer.  I also love gold bond's medicated powder to prevent chaffing (but be very careful that it doesn't get into your lady bits, it burns like a mug!)

    Boudreaux's Butt Paste!

  • Um, I'm guilty of using the diaper rash cream we have for the kids.  Always fun having to sneak in there to grab it!  We use Bourdreaux's Butt Paste.  I think DH just likes the name, but damn does it work for the boys and for me!

Lmao this is what I was going to say. When I was pregnant with DS2 in the summer I was dealing with the chafing issue so because I had seen DH sprinkle some down his shorts I figured I'd try it too.. right as we were heading out the door. As soon as we started driving I was like "holy fuck, what's happening to my vag?!" And DH just laughed and laughed. I definitely learned my lesson.

Ok, so is it the same for baby powder? We have Vaseline and aquaphor, but no diaper rash "creams" around...I was thinking baby powder would be good because it's dry? Do I need to avoid the bits with that stuff too? Lol

Baby powder is fine. I use the Johnson&Johnson cucumber baby powder down there a lot. It's like a spa in between my thighs. Ok, maybe not, but it makes it a lot more comfortable when chaffing down there.

  • Just the medicated gold bond powder needs to stay away from the bits.  I must have spilled some on the toilet seat or the toilet paper once.  I left the bathroom and was all fins but in two minute my vag was on fire!  As soon as I rinsed off I was fine but it was very alarming for about 5 minutes!

I think the dry powder works well to prevent the chaffing but I find the cream helps soothe already affected areas better.

BodyGlide Anti-Chafing is the best for anti-chafing. Runners use it and that's when I started buying it. You can get a huge stick of it (like a deoderant stick) on Amazon for $10.

I always put a little on my inner thighs before I wear dresses (I wasn't blessed with the lovely thigh gap either Beyonce--photoshop not needed) and it really helps. You can use it anywhere. My dad uses it on his feet before he runs.

  • I lived in Africa for 5 months and was sweating ALL the time. I never chaffed because I bought spandex biker shorts that I wore as underwear (the kind I got at Dick's Sporting Goods are also meant to be underwear). They are super comfortable and work like a dream. One of my teammates who was there with me just brought regular underwear and she chaffed so badly. I gave her a pair of mine and she was SO grateful.
So yeah, I recommend spandex biker shorts. :)

  • Last pregnancy I changed the type of underwear I was using.  Anything that had uncovered elastic around the legs went into storage. I bought some cheapie grannie panties that had cotton covered elastic.

  • This won't help for relief, but sometimes I use baby powder if I am wearing a dress and don't want to have that annoying chafing issue. I guess it's more preventative.

  • I use the Monistat anti-chaffing powder gel... It doesn't have a smell and isn't sticky. Works great!   :D

  • I use a stick called Body Glide. It looks a lot like a deodorant stick. You just rub it on. I buy it at MC Sports. Works like a charm!
  • I don't know how to prevent it, but good grief, I am glad I'm not the only one!  I thought I could clear it up with just Gold Bond, but nope.  Straight up had to use the antifungal cream that I bought once for when my daughter had a horrible diaper rash.  That's cleared up the awful chafe and burn situation I had going on, and now I'll use the powder people mentioned above as a preventative.
