At my appt on Thurs I was 3cm, 80% and he stripped my membranes. Friday I was up around 6 unable to sleep with the regular contractions I had been having but these felt stronger and lower. I just hung out waiting for the kids to wake up, by 8 they were noticeably stronger and lasing longer. Alittle after 9 I called DH at work to come home, and called my Mom who got her class covered and headed over. We were at Triage by 11, they said I was a 4.5 and contractions were maybe a minute apart, lasting 1.5-2 minutes long. Thank god this was it, and I was admitted.
The hospital was crazy busy, we literally got the last room on L&D's floor.
By 1:30 I had my epidural and we were getting settled. Since the hospital was so busy, they just had me labor, things were going great on their own. About 3 hours later while laying down to get checked my water broke, and I was a 7. After that things went pretty quick. Baby was so low, my epi wasn't covering the pain. The contractions were not even a minute apart, lasting 2-3 minutes, it was awful! I could handle them in the beginning, but not having recovery time wore on me pretty quick. The anesth. came back and gave me Fentanyl, which was my new best friend. I could feel the peaks and had to breathe through them, but not the 2 minutes of it. At 6pm, my nurse had me start pushing, after about 3 pushes she had me stop, and ran out to get the doctor, I had to wait during 1 contraction for them to break down the bed and set up, then it was go time. At 6:15pm Griffin Robert was born, at 8lbs 4oz, 20inches.
They ended up moving us up to the C/S recovery floor since they needed the rooms, about 2 hours after I delivered. I had already been up walking and wasn't having any issues. We later found out 21 babies were born that day, with the majority in the late afternoon/evening.
Sorry that was long winded.
Re: Quick birth story
Geez, between you and Sarah, I feel like a giant slacker on the writing of the birth story front! I'll finish mine soon ... allegedly.
I am pretty sure that Fentanyl was my new friend, too, while I was waiting on them to decide if I could have an epidural. It made me feel a tad drunk and wore off faster than I would have prefered, but it was better than nothing!
I am glad that your labor with Mr. G went relatively easy!
Love it! Welcome to the world Griffin! You were born on a pretty fabulous day! When you turn 21 I'll take you out and we can celebrate our birthdays together.
Sounds good, right C??
Oh, wow, that's awesome!!
Congratulations!

With A, I got that phentonol (sp?) and like Jen, it wore off super quick! I remember counting down til I could have another dose. But, DH said I was snoring between contrax! Lol. Sounds like it gave you just enough rest to handle them.
I can't wait to see little Griffin!
Congratulations! Can't wait to meet him - I will have to trek North once my family gets un-sick
