Stupid, stupid Anthem!!!

Ugh! at my 6 week checkup, i discussed getting the paragard. My husband just got a new job, so I had to wait a few weeks to get it. Now the midwives office is saying that Anthem doesnt cover the Paragard! So mad. now I have to get on the low hormone pill, which doesnt take effect immediately. I really dont want 2 babies this soon.

  • i know how you feel.  Friggin' Community Care is a Catholic insurance company and doesn't pay for birth control of any kind.  I didn't have $900 to drop on Mirena, so I opted for the Depo shot.

  • Most insurances won't cover them. From what I understand there are too many risks involved according to medical reviews of the product. If paying for it OOP is an option for you, should there be any issues, medically they should still cover any proceedure needed involving an IUD. FWIW, Anthem is really pretty awesome to deal with. I think you might come to like them a lot in the future.

I asked how much it would cost, they said since I have insurance, they cannot bill me. But they wont do it b/c the insurance wont pay them!

Wow! that is horrible! I can see if its  your beliefs to not use birth control, but geez. That sucks!

  • Try going to Planned Parenthood.  They have sliding scales for paying for BC.

  • Paraguard causes some pretty heavy bleeding in many people. Do they cover Mirena? Is there a reason you couldn't do that instead?

This is what I did because my insurance doesn't cover IUDs. I got Mirena for one-third of the price I would have paid at my dr's office. I figure we would have ended up paying that for pills over the next five years and I don't have to worry about it. :)

    Good luck!

I wanted to avoid hormones all together.

Geez! Sounds like an aweful policy at your doctor's office! I agree with going to Planned Parenthood. GL!

  • I was really happy my insurance paid for my IUD... In the past I've had plans that didn't cover bc at all- I went to planned parenthood! They are great.
