Rolling in to side of crib.. .what to do? (repost from 0-3 mos)

My 4 week old has somehow managed to roll over on his side all the way in to the side of his crib. I don't have a bumper, thank God. But, last time it happened his arm was sticking out from the slats. It's happened about 4 or 5 times over the last couple of days. I find him on his side with his face up against the side almost every time I go in to feed him in the night (every 3 to 4 hours).

Is this normal or do most babies just stay in one place when they sleep?

Also, we have been doing a 1/2 swaddle until now (under the armpits so the arms are free). Do you think I should do away with this and just put him in a sleep sack? We didn't like the sleep sack much because it's hard to get him in it after the middle of the night feedings without completely waking him up.

Thanks!

  • Breathable bumper maybe? I would do the sleep sack. And maybe put him the other way in the crib-short ways so the ends are parallel with his body and further away. We do the half swaddle but he isn't rolling yet.
