Yesterday DS fell down our basement stairs. All 13 of them ![]()
We thought the basement door was closed, and I was about 5 feet away around the corner. Everything was fine, we were all relaxing. He is a super active crawler and since I thought everything was closed up and safe, I wasnt worried when he went around the corner. Then I heard the most sickening series of thuds down the stairs. I dont even remember running to get him.
He cried right away, never lost consciousness or displayed any signs of head trauma but we stripped him to check him over and then took him to the hospital immediately. It only took about 15 minutes after it happened for the little guy to be back to his old self, soon he was flirting with the girls in the waiting room. You wouldnt have known anything happened at all if it wasnt for the rugburn on his little nose and a puffy spot on his lip. His vitals were perfect, the doctors checked him and said he was just fine. At this age babies are "mushy" he said.
LO doesnt have a single bruise, not one goose egg. There is a little red spot on his nose but the swelling is already gone from his lip.
This was the first big thing that happened to my LO since I have been a parent, and it just kills me. I feel like the worlds worst mother, having let it happen. I also feel INCREDIBLY LUCKY. It would have been so easy for him to have been hurt very badly, or even the unthinkable happen.
Thanks for letting me share. I hope none of you ever goes through something like this! What a terrible day
Re: Scary, terrible day
How scary! I got sick to my stomach just reading it, I can't imagine what it was like living it.
I'm glad everything turned out okay.
I'm so sorry this happened, and I'm glad he's okay!
Don't beat yourself up about it. These things happen, and it's part of being a parent. Hugs!
Mac and cheese lover!
