I've noticed quite a few ladies are back at work or going back this week. For those still on maternity leave, how long are you taking off/when are you going back to work?
I'm starting back 2 days a week in March (Thurs/Fri), then going back full time in April and May -- before having summer vacation for 3 months (I'm an elementary school counselor). When I go back part-time, DH will stay home with LO, so we'll only have to pay for 2 months of daycare before summer.
Not looking forward to going back - but looking forward to the adult interaction -- I work with a wonderful staff!
Re: For those still on maternity leave...
I am not a working mom, but just wanted to say how precious Ava looks in that picture! I love the jacket and hat she is wearing!
Because I am a sub I can go back when I want, or not at all. I am covering a maternity leave at the end of April until the end of the school year (the end of May). Then I'll have the whole summer before my grad classes and school starts up again.
I really debated on taking the maternity leave job, but figured it would be nice to have that extra money for the summer. Plus we ended up with unexpected hospital bills due to Ellie being in the PICU. I just keep telling myself it is only for a month.
I took off 12 weeks and will go back next Monday. I am going back full time- no other choice. I'm a high school teacher & soccer coach, although am not coaching soccer this year since our season is almost over. We don't have to pay for daycare in summer either, we found a great center that lets teachers pull their kids out but saves them a spot for August. I do teach 2 weeks of summer school (Mon-Thurs from 8-4) but my mom is going to come take care of him for that time.
I do miss my coworkers and even my students, so it will be bittersweet to go back. At least for the first 3 weeks, DS is not going to daycare. My mom is watching him for 2 weeks & MIL for 1 and then we have spring break. He'll start after that. I think having my mom here will make it sooo much easier on me and allow me to kind of ease into being away from him.

My Rainbow Baby Boy born 03Jan2019
My district makes me count vacations as part of my maternity leave. It wasn't worth the fight for 2 weeks, however I did find out that in the past they have made mom's who have babies over the summer count summer weeks as maternity leave. THAT would get a huge fight from me. Ultimately, I would have loved the additional time off, but I only had 29 sick days so it would have been 10 more days that I didn't get paid...
I ended up getting 13 1/2 weeks (12 if you don't count the vacations) because I had 7 days of sick leave when I was on bedrest before being induced, which did not count towards my maternity leave. I have to go back in 2 weeks (2/29). DH is going to be home during the day while I am at school, and then we have another week vacation in April, and then summer vacation starts 6/18 (as long as we have no snow days, which we are on track for so far). I can't wait to have the summer off with LO and do all sorts of fun things. I'm glad he's going to be a little older and may actually enjoy some of the outings!
