Pregnant after 35

Are you done after this child is born?

Do you plan to have more children or will this one be your last?  If you are planning for it to be your last what kind of prevention are you considering?  This will be my second child a probably my last.  If I do a repeat c-section I could get my tubes tied as part of the procedure.  While we don't have plans for another, it still seems so final...

Re: Are you done after this child is born?

  • For me it's going to depend on how this pregnancy and birth goes.  I've always imagined at least 2 kids but I worry about my age and weight.  Honestly, this one is such a miracle baby that I hadn't given a moment's thought to prevention.

  • This is it for us.  I already told the OB if I end up with a c-section to go ahead and tie off those tubes.  Not that there's much likelihood of actually getting pg again given my IF history and diagnosis; but we don't want to ever have to worry about a surprise down the line.    If I am able to avoid a c-s, then DH will be getting snipped this summer.

  • We never thought the 2nd one was possible so it's safe to say WE ARE DONE!

  • We'll probably be done, but I can't bring myself to do a tubal or snip for DH after all our time TTC.  I think we'll do Natural Family Planning & supplement w/condoms.

  • We will be done after this one. Even though I'm 38, if I didn't have MS then we'd probably try for a third, but as it is this LO will complete our family of 5 - I count the cat :)

eta: and we haven't settled on BC yet.

I'm in the same situation; It took us so much to conceive this LO, I don't suppose it will happen again but if it does, it does and I won't do anything to prevent it.

  • This is it! But I have one blocked tube so Im not bothering doing anything. It took an IVF for these babes, I doubt we have to worry!
  • We are done. Although with my c-section two weeks ago, i didn't request for my tubes to be tied. During this pregnancy, i thought i may want to have a third, but having to have a repeat c-section and not enjoying the end of this pregnancy as much made me rethink that. I haven't decided what birth control to use yet.
  • Most likely we are done.  2 was always the magic number for us.  I have quite a ways to go in this pregnancy to decide what type of BC we'll use.

  • This is our first. I'm okay with being done, but DH still wants one more...So we will be trying for one more after this...Then we are done!  :)

Hopefully, the second one comes as easily as this one...

  • We are done and I will be getting a tubal during my repeat c-section.  We thought we were done at 2, but I was 32 and DH was only 29 so something permenant at that point wasn't on the table.  I got a Mirena IUD that worked for 4+ years then failed, so I am pregnant with a surprise 3rd:)  We are excited, but don't want a surprise 4th,  we are definately doing something permenant.

  • This is it for us and I just learned last week that the hospital I am going to deliver at has approved my tubal. It is a catholic hospital and you have to have a medical reason most of the time but my doc said he could make it work....and he did! This will be our 3rd. I have 1 son from when I was younger....21. He is autistic and 16. My dh and I have a son together who is 8 and then this little one is on the way. 3 is enough!

  • I was done BEFORE this one spit on the barriers to come into existence.
  • This is it for us. Unless I have a c-section, DH is planning on the vasectomy.

  • I am 43 and was sure my eggs had dried up. We are excited but don't want another surprise so I'll have my tubes tied after my RCS. DH was supposed to have had a vasectomy but never got the nerve. Now we are thrilled with our bonus baby on the way.

  • Does anyone know how long the tubal extends the c-section procedure?  I'm considering this, but don't want to be kept from snuggling my baby for the first time!  :)
  • Probably done with this one, but I purposely planned TTC #2 so if we change our minds, we could still have a third before I turn 40.

We'll use condoms while I'm BFing, then maybe I'll go back on the pill or we'll do NFP.

DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
  • This will be my 3rd and final. I will have a hyster due to endometriosis and adenomyosis.

I would be open to adoption though. I've always loved the idea of it and would love a chance to do it.

  • This will be baby #2 and he will be our last one.  I will have a repeat c-section so i will get my tubes tied and the H is okay with being sniped/cut whatever you want to call it.

I does seem so final and I am sad about it - but we are older, and quite frankly I don't think I could handle more than two kids!

  • This will be our #2. We are 85-95% sure we're done after this. We had originally planned to go for a third is #2 is a boy since #1 was a boy... and we'd like to have a girl, but since this one took so much more time that #1 did (with #1 we got a BFP on cycle 2, this time, we got a bfp on cycle 1 but m/c'd and took a full year to get another BFP...

We will wait until late in this pregnancy before making a final decision, but we're both pretty sure we're done. We just have not yet decided which one of us is getting snipped. (for whatever reason DH would rather get snipped than have me get snipped even though I'm leaning towards a repeat csect anyway)

  • We are done, this will be #2 for us and it took a lot of heartache to get to this point (2 losses between DD and this baby).  That, and our ages (we are both almost 40) makes us feel that we are done after this.  I am so thankful to be having one more, I am content to count the blessings I have and not push my luck :)  I would like DH to get the snip, he is very resistant to the idea though (GRR) so we'll see.  I can't tolerate any type of hormonal BC, so I'm working on him about that.

  • This is definitely our last.  I'm likely going to have my tubes tied during my repeat c/s.

  • THis is our last. I'm having a repeat C section and the tubes will be tied.
  • We are done!!!!  If I have a c-section, I will get my tubes tied.  If I do not have a c-section, DH has already agreed to have a vasectomy.  Neither one of us wants anymore, so we are in agreement about surgical sterilization.

  • This is #1 and I'm 37.  It is took 3 years of not preventing to become pregnant.  I didn't think it would happen at all so this is our miracle baby.

DH has indicated once that he is happy sticking with one but I'm not so sure.  So we need to discuss further.  I'm of the mind to not prevent and see what happens.  I think once I turn 40 I'll definitely want to reevaluate and possibly stick with what we've got.  Then again age is just a number and there are many other factors that will determine whether or not we leave open the possibility.

I've used an IUD in the past and despite the pain at insertion I thought it was a great choice for easy, reliable, safe contraception.
