Georgia Babies

Without getting too far into it...

A FB friend of mine from my church is going to lose her baby - more than likely.  Between the finances of the unexpected pregnancy, opening a new business, the diagnosis, all the specialists and testing, well, she has mentioned in her blog the funeral will be too expensive and her thoughts she expressed on her blog make me think she is pretty checked out right now and can't even deal with planning one.  At any rate, I'm not sure what I can offer to do for help without being offensive.  It seems every time she tries to gather information on what to expect at the hospital, dealing with the remains, etc. her doctors are not informative.  She has two other children and they are 3 and 1.

I have offered to help her find a photographer but she says that is taken care of.

  • That's terrible.  I don't know much, and it sounds like she already has a photographer, but the Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep foundation is awesome.  They provide free professional photographers that come to the hospital to photograph the birth experience.  Supposed to be an incredible organization.

  • How horrible for your friend, and I understand your feelings of helplessness.  Since she's a friend from church, I assume that, when the time comes, funeral services will be through your church, so maybe you could talk to the minister/priest/religious official and let them know that you'd like to help in anyway you can.  It might be helpful to organize a meal calendar for a few days a week, since she has young kids and probably not a lot of time to food shop or cook.

  • I agree with organizing meals through friends and church. This website has a calendar and allows people to sign up for different options. It's awesome. We used it for meal coordination when my nephew was in the NICU for two months.

  • The hospital should have a greif counselor she could talk with.  Or maybe you could call and get some information for her.  I have a friend that delivered a stillborn at 20 weeks and she did not choose to bury the remains, the hospital took care of it for her.
