My shower was at 2 p.m. last Sunday and I arrived at 1:30 p.m. when my mom and a few of my aunts did to help setup and be there to greet early guests! My mom doesn't know a lot of DH's extended family so it was helpful for me to be there to say hi to them and get them comfortable before everything started even though my MIL was there early too.
I'd ask the hostess, but I think it makes sense to arrive early. Especially if any of your guests won't know your friend or other people at the shower - might be awkward if you aren't there when they arrive.

Mine is at 11 tomorrow and I plan to show up at 11. I did the same thing with my bridal shower. My family and friends said they didn't want me to show up early because it's a party for me.
Side note: They get frustrated with me because I have a hard time letting people do things for me/plan things for me.

In my family, even if the party is being thrown for you, you still show up early and help with some last minute set-up.
With the shower my MIL is throwing, I have no idea. She is no longer responding to my e-mails. However, DH is going ice fishing with his dad and brother so she is now stuck with me all day. lol
So I'm not sure etiquette. I'd just ask ask the hostess.

I arrived 30-45 minutes early to help setup (which they didn't let me do LOL) and greet guests. Especially since the host didn't know most of the guests.
