Re: FFCF!!!!

  • My confession:

DH and I are using February as a "No Spend Month."  Where we don't spend any money except to pay the bills.  ...Yesterday I bought 2 new cocktail dresses because I have a cocktail party to attend tonight and DH and I are going to the symphony tomorrow.  DH has no idea those dresses are new.  Embarrassed

I am getting more and more annoyed with people on TB (and in general) who refuse to consider medical opinions or scientific studies.   I am not saying that people should just accept "expert"  advice, but it should at least be acknowledged.

Example.  I hate when people give anecdotal evidence to refute scientific findings.  It doesn't matter that your FF baby didn't get sick often.  The studies are talking about trends!!  I'm glad that your baby was the exception.

I'm going to assume this is directed towards me. The "it's not best for all babies" comment is more from the mom aspect. I was MISERABLE BFing, I'll even venture towards depressed. I am not lying when I said I hated every minute of it.

People pick and choose which studies they will listen to. I can guarantee there are some BFing mothers who will not RF until 2 even though it is proven safest for baby.

It actually was not directed at you.  I have been thinking this for months.

I honestly have nothing against people who try to BF and find that it doesn't work for them.  No problems at all!!   I would agree that in your case, BF wasn't right for you.  BF-ing shouldn't make someone depressed.  I am sure you are a better mother for stopping BF-ing, which I guess, is better for your baby in the long run.

I just think that people like to say BF-ing is not good for all babies as a way to justify their actions.

My apologies for assuming.  Why is "I just don't want to" not a good enough reason? It's not like someone is saying, "I don't want to feed my kid"

If it's good enough a reason for you,  that is all that matters.  We all have to make choices and live with any resulting consequences.  Not saying there will be consequences. LOL. Sometimes I hate having conversations online!

My thing is - "I just don't want to" is absolutely good enough! My peeve is when people hide behind other reasons b/c they just won't say "I just don't want to". They say "it's too hard" when they tried for a day in the hospital or they try to say there's no diff btwn FF and BF, which studies have shown over and over that there most definitely is.

This too! I think Red said it better than me!

It's more fun to have differing opinions.  Kinda like the UO yesterday.  Action on the board!

But then the flamefull confessions turn lame like, I let my baby cry for 5 whole minutes yesterday.

Eh, 2 of mine were lame. I usually don't participate in UO or FFFC because I don't have anything other than my kid rolled pretty far underneath the bed in 3.5 seconds when I wasn't paying attention.

Meh. Send the dog under there to fish him out.

I leave my baby unattended with my animals. Yup...indeed. I trust them with my life, so why wouldn't I trust them with his? We knew when we got our animals that there would be a baby in the picture some day. I've been pulling on their tails and ears since day 1. LO doing it is no different.

I love when the discussions are heated. Difference of opinion makes the world go round. Keep it coming ladies!

Yup, I leave him on the floor in the same room with my dogs all the time!  It seriously freaks the hell out of my parents and IL's...but I know my dogs, they seriously wouldn't hurt a fly....and my one dog won't roll over for many people, but always, always, always rolls over for kids under the age of 5...he knows he needs to just deal with it...(although we do not let kids be mean to them, and my child will be taught the right way to treat animals!)

haha - I can't do that with my cat. DS and the cat are WAY too interested in each other now and DS has a very strong grip. I'm afraid of what the cat would do to DS if he grabbed her hair or tail. Also, the cat loves his little feet when they're moving and I'm not sure if she realizes to be more gentle with a baby than with us.

I'm super proud of DH and I for the size of a house down payment we have saved, our credit scores, the size of a home loan we qualify for, and the lender telling us that we are in way better shape than most of the people he sees apply lately. I can't go telling people this IRL or it might come across as gloating - but we have worked hard and sacrificed a lot to get where we are today and it makes me very happy. Now we get to enjoy the fact that we can be super picky about houses and only look at those in the best school districts, with no repairs/updates required, and with walking trails right near by.

We just got pre-approved for a loan yesterday and are looking at a house that we are pretty excited about tomorrow, so that is why this is on my mind:-)

You should not feel like this is gloating. You should be proud of yourself!  Congrats! I hope the hosue you see today is fantastic!

Thanks (and also thanks to the pp who commented!). I come from a working class family where living paycheck to paycheck is the norm and also a lot of my closest friends are going through things like divorces right now so I feel like I have to keep all of my happiness about this to myself :-)

Ah, ok. Well then I think we all agree, right? BFing is better, "I just don't want to' is a good enough reason. Lying is bad. Yayyy! Another boring FFFC because we all agree lol

True true, there is some of that.  But most people are really cool with people having kids or trying for a sibling.

As long as you aren't starting threads AWing your kid or your pregnancy, no one cares.  And I'd kick some arse if they tried to start anything.  Cool

  • My confession?  I don't agree with half of what Cobra says, but it doesn't make  me love her any less. ;)  If anything it makes me love her more.

Also, I teach and I don't like most of my kids this year.  This has never happened and I felt bad at first, but hey.....it's just the truth.  I would never tell anyone IRL this.  Sometimes I want to look at them and say,"Are you effing kidding me??!!", but instead I grit my teeth and say things like, "Isn't there a better choice you can make?  Let's think about smart choices."

Oh, and eesome's badge making skills make me want a badge that says "My birth was better than yours" for the sole purpose of annoying people.

I'm on a roll today...I love breastfeeding.  I think that it helped me bond with LO better.  I say this because he was SUPER colicky and the boob is the only thing that would calm him down.  I worry what our bond would be like if I hadn't.

  • I am part of a "Biggest Loser" group at work and fell off of the diet wagon last night:  stopped at McDonalds last night on the way home for a quarter pounder and just finished an entire calzone for lunch.  I am sick of depriving myself, and am experiencing a "diet rebound"...time for a better balance.

I am getting a bit bored with the 3-6 month board with the new moms (3 month old babies) asking the same questions over and over again but totally acknowledge that I was one of those Mom's.  Looking forward to some new topics in the 6-9 boards in 2 1/2 weeks...

Oh, I actually have a good one.

I left one of those amazon pg tests laying around in the bathroom and H came in all serious and asked me about it.

I laughed and said, "Oh don't worry, I'm not pregnant."

He says, "Uh, I know.  The fact that you tested makes me want to know if you're having an affair."

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

I just can't figure out why my period still isn't here....

    This made me giggle....

    HAHAHA! This is great.

Tell your DH when I had my son, it took 2.5 months post weaning to get my period. Sometimes it takes longer. ENJOY it!

I'm sick of hearing about cloth diapering, breastfeeding, and natural births.

I'm sick of hearing about "how many oz is LO eating now?" and diaper blowout posts. :P
