Shocking

We went out to dinner last night with my husbands family and we were supposed to meet at 6:30.  We were there on time with a newborn while everyone else was 45 min late.  This is the 2nd time this has happened in the past week.  I was so infuriated because we have a bedtime routine that has been working for us and meeting at 6:30 allowed us to have dinner out and get home in time for her bedtime.  Nope, not when people are late!!!  I tried to explain to everyone that if we don't stick with that routine that dd will wake up more in the night and not do her long stretch.  I wasn't  surprised when I was woken up to dd crying at 2:30 instead of the usual 4:00.  Am I nuts for being so aggravated?  Why don't these people get it and how do you nicely avoid this situation the next time?  I'm just sick of being the one screwed in the end because other people can't get their crap together!!!

Re: Shocking

  • I would have not waited that long unless they let me know in advance they were running late.  Right now, I don't really accommodate other people's schedules.  We're the one with the newborn and toddler who need their routine.  Once the kids are old enough that it doesn't matter, or a rare occasion before, we bend the rules.  Most often, we do not.

Agreed. Next time, just order, eat, and leave when you planned (even if everyone else just got there).

  • agreed, i would have just left early.  When you have a baby your life revolves around them not the rest of your family and they should understand that :-)

  • Regardless if I had a newborn or not, I wouldn't have waited 45 minutes for anyone. 10-15 minutes late, okay, I can deal with that.  45...nope.

  • I have had this problem too. We have had people say they are going to stop by and visit to see our DD who is just 2 weeks old, and they show up hours after they say they will. I've had to tell people they couldn't come in because it was 9:30 pm. Who comes over at 9:30 pm to see a newborn?!?
