Hello All!
So my doc has scheduled our anatomy/gender determination appointment at week 20... on April 3rd. My husband and I have been researching 3-d/4-d ultrasound locations and we have found quite a few that can do gender determination at 16 weeks... has anyone done this (or known anyone) ... and how accurate would an ultrasound be at 16 weeks??
Any advice/opinions/experiences are greatly appreciated!
Re: Has anyone done a 3-D ultrasound to determine the sex?
Because I can?
Plus, if they can't determine the sex at that time, almost all places allow you to come back for free and try again. And that is why they don't usually do 3d/4d s at that time.. they just do the regular ultrasound to see the gender.
The package we found includes two 3-d ultrasounds.. six weeks apart:) SO we would have our first one at 16 weeks (where yes - we want to know the gender) and then another at 22 weeks... we are still thinking about it ... but the deal was pretty great $70 for each one! It includes a DVD with all the pictures and a 20 - 25 minute ultrasound for each session... I heard that the 3-D ones are much more clear which is why they say they can determine the gender at that time...
My u/s tech at 12 weeks said that with 85% of her patients she can see the sex at 12 weeks ..but our baby was in a very strange position and she could barely get the NT measurements let alone a peek at the gender parts! ... We are still deciding but appreciate the the help!
We did this -- the first around 18 wks, though, to be sure.
Lurker Here--We did one at 16 weeks and they were able to tell us we were having a girl. We got some great pictures and a video and it was worth every penny to us.
With our last, we bought a very reasonable package that included a sex determination at 16w (a boy, clear as day) and a longer 3D/4D at around 29 weeks. Great experience and there was no denying there was a boy in there!!
ETA: And as PP mentioned their policy was that you could come back later if 16w was too early to determine the sex. Think that's pretty standard.

My sister had a 3D at 20 weeks and I went with her and the baby did not look like a skeleton he was so precious and it was amazing!!!!!
We had our a/s with our son at 18 weeks and although he looks alienesque it's not too bad. The third tri ultrasounds are great since they have some fat to fill them out.
Actually, it's not just a skeleton at 16 weeks. Our 4D scan was awesome at 16 weeks and it was NOT too early to determine the sex. It may be for some, but little biscuit cooperated with us just fine.
Here is our pic: (I may be biased but I think she looks really cute here)
No problem! I hate people on here slighting other people's wishes. The 16w u/s was one of the best days of my pregnancy. I'd had a loss with my other daughter (see sig) and it was a long haul between the 11w NT scan and the 20w anatomy scan. It brought me some peace and comfort to see her flipping around in there and seeing her sweet little face. And I don't think she looks like an alien or "isn't cute." She looks like a 16 week old fetus, that has a beautiful little face and arms and legs. Yes, our 31w elective u/s showed more detail, and she looked more like she did when she was born, but I get really sick of women making it sound stupid to have this done.
Good luck and I look forward to seeing your pics!
And I think you're a B*TCH, so there YOU go!
