Activities for kids at DS 4th Bday Party? Need Ideas!!

We'll be having a party for DS 4th bday at our association clubhouse.  Kids will range from 2 yrs to 5 yrs old.  There is no park there and no room for a bounce house.

Can you give me some ideas of what I can do to entertain the kids?

We will have a piniata but I can't think of anything else!!!

 THANK YOU!

  • I have found that for all the activites I plan, the kids end up running around my backyard screaming :)

    -Coloring table

    -Dress up clothes

    -sprinkler/hose

  • What theme are you doing?  We attended a flip flop themed birthday party last year, and the kids decorated cheap flip flops and a carrying bag with sparkle glitter puffy paint and little stick on jewels and had a blast.  Clearly that is too girly for the boys, but kids 3+ will love any kind of craft like that.  At another party, the girls decorated fairy houses while the boys decorated the same houses with a more boyish name.  They had moss to glue on the roof if they wanted, lots of foam stickers, more puffy paint, etc. There are some foam sticker craft sets at Michael's with all sorts of different animals.

If you do a craft project, be sure to put down plenty of plastic table cloths so you can just fold it up and trash it at the end.

  • You can have:

    coloring table with crayons/markers/paper/coloring books

have a table with beads and string maybe.....have the kids make bracelets and necklaces.  Just put the beads in a few small bowls and leave some string out

leave out crafts - stuff from oriental trading maybe or some sort of craft store that has a $1 section

These are just a few things we've seen at the birthday parties we've attended. :)

  • art projects, have someone do face painting, have someone come in who does kids shows (storytelling, dancing, magic, etc), balloon toss game, get a huge square of bubble wrap and let the kids jump on it.

  • I think I'm odd, but we have never had specific planned activities. We had DS's 4th party a few weeks ago and had 9 kids (and their parents) ages 1-8 and just let them play with our toys and run around. Between eating dinner, cake/ice cream, and gifts, there wasn't a lot of extra time for something planned. 2-2.5 hours goes by pretty quickly. And in our circle of friends, it hasn't been necessary or expected.

But I think something like balloon animals would be fun at this age.

  • These are the things we did for DD's 4th birthday:

    1.       Musical squares

    You need:

Music and a music player (e.g.: CD player or tape deck).

    Oak tag or cardboard.

A variety of large shapes ? balloons, trains, teddy bears, or shapes the fit your theme ? like bright colored fish for an Under the Sea Theme or fire trucks and Dalmatians for a Firefighter party.

    How to play:

    1. Cut out large theme related shapes and arrange them on the floor all around the room.
    2. Turn on the music
    3. When the music stop have the kids put their toe on whatever shape they can get to first. More than one child can share the same shape at the same time and they just need to get their toe on the shape.
    4. Continue playing the game taking away one shape at a time until there is only one shape left. As long as every kid can get one toe on the remaining shape, everyone is a winner!

    2.  Frog race: kids hop like frogs to the finish line (this can have lots of variations)

    3.      Pin the clothes on the person/Make a person

Instead of pin the tail on the donkey, everyone has a different part (hands, feet, shirt shoes, hat).

  • I had this grand idea for DS's party.  DH picked up a few large boxes, I think they ended up being dryer boxes.  I bought all this stuff for kids to decorate them, tissue paper, paints, crayons ect.  All they wanted to do was cute windows in them and play in them.  Biggest hit ever!
  • I bought these ink pads at oriental trading.  https://www.orientaltrading.com/cool-classic-giant-color-stamp-pad-set-a2-56_9002-12-1.fltr?Ntt=ink+pad

All the kids then got their own canvass (from Michaels) and did their hands on the canvass.  They could decorate them with stickers or anything else they wanted.

I did all of us in our family (mom, dad, 2 kids) on one canvass and wrote our last name and the date.  It's now hanging up in our playroom.  Some of the other families saw ours and wanted the same thing for their family.  It's a cool idea to keep them busy at a party plus a nice take home favor present all wrapped into one!

  • You can also set up plain sugar cookies with sprinkles etc...for them to decorate.

    Bowling Pins and a ball

    Play dough station
