Anyone deliver at GBMC?

Hi everyone,

I delivered my DD in North Carolina and have recently switched OB/GYN's to one that delivers at GBMC. I had a c-section with my DD because she was breech. Not sure what I'm doing this time (I just found out I'm prego again). I'd love to hear your experiences at GBMC, c-section or not.

Thanks!

Mandy

  • Congrats!  I expect that you will get lots of great feedback about GBMC.  We had our daughter there, and it was a wonderful experience!   The staff was so wonderful, and really eased the fears of a first time mom to be.  The rooms were gorgeous, and we really had a great stay (we almost didn't want to leave!).  I think you will be happy there.  Good luck!

  • I had my DD at GBMC and it was great. Some  posters say their c-section rate is too high but my doc. did everything she could so that I avoided a c-section.  I had previous surgery that resulted in scar tissue issues and she did not want to cut me causing more issues.  I think one thing that has to be taken in consideration with GBMC is that they are a high-risk hospital with a level IIIb NICU and therefore many people go there just to have c-sections.

  • I also had a very good experience at GBMC.  I can also report that the NICU is outstanding, although I hope you don't need to use it!

  • First:  Congrats!!

Second:  I delivered DS at GBMC & LOVED it.  I was induced (DS was late & stubborn; never even dropped before I had to start pushing!!).  Everyone was so wonderful there.  I felt no pressure to do anything I wasn't comfortable with.  Everyone I saw was extremely helpful, answered any questions we had & did what they could to help with any requests we had.  I didn't really feel like a "patient" as much as I felt more like a "guest" while there (if that makes sense).  We had no questions that we'd go back for this pregnancy as well.

  • I delivered at GBMC and it was a wonderful experience.  Our L&D nurse was amazing and made my husband and I feel really at ease.  From the staff to the facility, it was just a really great experience.  I would definitely recommend delivering there!

  • Wow! Thank you all so much!! I'm feeling good about my choice to switch now. :) Looking forward to getting to know you all. When I was pregnant last time, I spent most of my time in the local NC board.

  • Both of my daughters were born at GBMC, and my third one will be too. I loved my experience there. I had scheduled c/s both times, so I can't speak much for the labor part, but post-partum everything went smoothly. The only problem I had was with my first c/s. Nora (I think her name was) the nurse in pre-op sucked at putting in the IV, and stuck me like three of four times before she got it in right. The rest of the staff was excellent.

  • Congratulation!

I had a great experience at GBMC, everyone is so helpful and nice. I also had a C-Section and it went very smoothly with no complications. My doctor is no longer with the practice but I've heard wonderful things about the other 2 doctors in the practice so I'm comfortable going back there when DH and I decide to expand our family.

We had one nurse (I think she's a tech?) who went above and beyond. She was a God-send. Her name was Xin (pronounced like Shin) and she couldn't have been more helpful. She even hunted down ginger ale late one night and made me ginger tea after my surgery.

I love their OB wing, and the delivery rooms are state-of-the-art!

They also offer classes for Mommies who wish to deliver vaginally after having a C-Section.
