I have a friend I went to HS with and today she is 36 weeks pregnant with her 3rd baby. Her Facebook Status was going to my appointment hopefully the doctor will give me an induction date. Isn't a little too soon to talk about induction? Maybe she is close... her other status was how she was 50% effaced and 2 cm dilated. While I know that means nothing for a first baby I am not so sure about 2nd and 3rd babies. What do you all think?

While I don't know the whole story, I can't imagine discussing induction that early. And those size assumptions seem to rarely be accurate. DS's head was also in the 90th percentile range... yep, that was a whole lot of pushing.
I think a month before is normal. With my 2nd at my 8 wk appt, I went in asking for an induction to set up childcare for DD1. The dr said she had no problems with that as long as my pg went smoothly we can schedule at 39 wks. I think we set up the induction date at 36 or 37 weeks.
Same w/ DD1. The month before EDD, we discussed induction b/c H had to attend a mandatory job meeting on the actual due date.
I guess it depends upon when they are discussing it for, is her doctor really busy so they are talking a few weeks out? Does she have any underlying health issues? I have a friend who is on blood thinners since she had a blood clot in her brain and so they induced her at exactly 37 weeks since they wanted her to stop taking her medication 24 hours before delivery. Personally having a baby at around 36 weeks myself and having to deal with him not latching and not wanting to eat period for weeks I would say to let the baby bake for as long as he possibly can unless there are any complications which would make an early induction or c section a safer idea for everyone.
I think you can be dialated and effaced for some time. My husband's coworker just had a baby, it was her third and she was like 4 cm dialated at one point and yet the birth still didn't happen at it was days later they finally induced her.

Like PP said, maybe she has underlying issues that might need an induction.
And I don't think her discussing it with her doctor means that she is being induced, just that they are discussing it should she need it.
I think discussing an induction at 36 weeks is fine. I also think that if she is discussing an induction with her OB there is probably a medical reason why an induction is even necessary and you probably don't know the whole story.
