Trying to Get Pregnant

What to eat to conceive article

I was browsing through Parenting.com today while at work and came across this great article.  Although I already knew how water and dark leafy greens were important, this article breaks down what to eat and when from menstruation to ovulation to luteal phase (sustaining a pregnancy).  I hope some of you find this as helpful as I did. :)

Re: What to eat to conceive article

  • Great article! Thanks for sharing.
Sept 2013 started TTC#2 (never got PP period so hoping for the first egg to drop)
Jan 2014 - diagnosed POF (Premature Ovarian Failure) and told pregnancy not possible without egg donor because my ovaries would never function again with my hormone levels (FSH 136, LH 98.6, AMH <.03, estradiol 0, HCG 7) - using acupuncture, chiropractic care and TCM herbs / supplements
March 11, 2014 ovulated despite every doctors prognosis!!!
Oct 2014 hormones (FSH 48, Estradiol 89, HCG 1) not good, but heckuva lot better!

Nov. 16, 2015 FET of single adopted 5AA embryo - BFN

  • So basically, eat healthy.

I totally side-eye the "don't eat cold foods during your LP."  Like a bowl is ice cream is going to lower your core temp so much that you "can't sustain a pregnancy."

Don't eat ice cream OR frozen yogurt, but eat pineapple sorbet.  Umm, isn't that a cold dessert? Oh wait, it is.

I ate sh!t tons of frozen yogurt when I was still pregnant. Maybe that's what I did wrong.

    (Bitter, table for one)

    :(

    I did that too...
MH was/is convinced that gluten is the devil, and questioned my gluten intake post m/c... Not his most sensitive moment.

I agree with you on calling BS on that particular bit of advice, and it makes me doubt the validity of the rest of the article. If a hot soup or a scoop of ice cream is enough to seriously affect your core temperature, you've got other problems.

ETA: Articles like this are terrible, in my opinion, because they make people start questioning everything they've been doing and beating themselves up for silly things like not eating just a few more carrots, because this article implies that maybe that could have prevented a MC.

  • Totally agreed on that part!  I found the most useful part to be the section on ovulation and menstruation.
  • Sort of confused on the pre-o diet. Says fuel up on meat, then right below says steer clear of meat! Which is it?!?! Is it stay away from processed meat but eat non-processed meat? What the hell?

This article contradicts itself in multiple places.  Look at the author, someone who has a Master's in Public Health and what knowledge of getting pregnant?

  • When I saw my doc last week, we went through some of those things and she said that processed meat is a no but lean meat is fine as long as it is done well!  If it is not, you run the risk of E. Coli, Trichinella and Salmonell.  Didn't mean to confuse you!

She's a freelance journalist (I Googled her) and she contributes to tons of websites and magazines. She seems to be quoting someone names "Blakeway" in the first part, at least, but she never tells us who that is. I don't think she's got a Pulitzer in her future, poor thing.

Agreed. IMO, I think this article is pretty much BS.
