? for anterior placenta ladies

I just found out today that my placenta is anterior - is it true that we show later then ladies who are posterior? I also read that it can move throughout the pg...

  • I have never heard that it makes you show sooner.  This is my third pregnancy and first AP and I feel like I was showing right from the beginning, haha.

I've also never heard that it can move, but I guess in the beginning maybe there's enough room for it to do so?

The only difference I had ever heard of is that it takes longer to feel movement and the movements start out feeling weaker than if it was presenting somewhere else.  I did find this to be true.  I didn't feel anything "strong" until after 20 weeks.  It was all tiny flutters before then and not very often at all.

I was told by my OB that my AP would not move. For people who have placenta previa, because of the way the ute grows, it can move up (but it doesn't really move, the ute grows in a way that the placenta is in a different position).

  • I'm lurking from PAL, but also had an anterior placenta. I never heard it could move. I didn't feel movement until around 20 weeks as well, and it was light. It being my first though I didn't have anything to compare it to though.

Other than that it never gave me any issues. We were able to hear his hb on doppler very early, etc.

  • I don't think it has anything to do with when you show but it will affect how much you feel LO move.  Mine has not moved at all and I am not sure that it can.  My doc was very happy mine was Anterior as it makes delivery a lot less complicated (according to her).

  • I was told at my NT scan that my placenta is anterior.  But I am definitely showing a lot already, at only 13 weeks.  Even a stranger asked me yesterday when I am due.

  • I have an AP, and it took a while to feel LO.  Nothing really regular until about 24 weeks or so.  Totally freaked me out, but the other AP mamas talked me down.

  • I have an AP and feel I showed sooner with my DD2 than with this one (being my 4th pregnancy).  Movement like the other ladies mentioned will come later in the pregnancy and you even won't feel it is as much in the late 2nd tri/early 3rd.  I was still having to pull out my doppler at 30 weeks because of lack of movement but when I had my NST last week and I would hear LO kick but not feel it I knew why and it reassured me.  Also I didn't realize that an AP doesn't move.  With DD2 I had a placenta previa that did correct itself later in the pregnancy so I just assumed all placentas move but I guess I was wrong.  Good to know mine won't be moving.

Ditto this! As for me w/ my DS I felt him moving around the same time most girls did. I am pretty thin and I felt him more on the sides.

  • I don't know that it has any effect on showing- but I didn't expect to feel LO move on a regular basis until ~24-25w- I felt him for sure at 21 weeks but it was closer to the start of 3rd tri that I felt him enough to stop using the doppler.

  • I don't think it caused me to show later. I've had an anterior placenta with both pregnancies. I was showing pretty early with my first and by 10 weeks this time around. I don't believe my placenta moved, but I only think that because no one ever mentioned that it had. The only thing I've been told about anterior placentas is that you may not feel movement as early or as much.
