Trying to Get Pregnant

"Complete" Cold, Flu and Sinus meds LIE. (vent)

AF finally ended! Yippeeee!!! After 10 days that is.

But my nasty flu is not gone. Fever comes and goes, runny nose is just turning into a sinus infection, and I ran out of meds to get rid of it. I went to the pharmacy, started reading each box and found out that... almost everything on the shelf is made of the same main ingredients. Not only that, but some brands, their "Extra Strong" is only as awesome as someone else's "Normal".

And most things focus on either chest congestion, fever, sore throat, coughing, phlegm and sometimes pain relief... or just overall sinus, migranes, sinus pains, blocked nose and fever. One or the other.

What happens when you've pretty much got everything?!!!!

I haven't gotten laid in nearly two weeks, and DH won't get too touchy feely with me, because last year we both had the most HORRIBLE sinus infection and fever ever, and we agreed we don't both need to be sick at the same time ever again, because... who's gunna cook for the sick person?!

I'm sick, I'm sore, I'm tired, I'm hungry and just horny. Really really horny.... *sigh*

/end rant.

  • Sorry you're feeling so bad :(  I started feeling sick last night - was completely congested all night.  Are any of these meds okay while in 2ww?  I only used Vick's on my nose but boy I wanted to use my Vick's nose spray!!

Also, have you still been temping through this?  I tried to temp this morning and couldn't breathe through my nose so it was quite a challenge... I tried just really firmly holding the BBT by pressing my tongue down while I cracked my mouth open to breathe!  Good times!! ;)

  • Yuck. I had that all last week and still am not feeling 100 percent so I feel your pain. The only thing that helped for me was tylenol cold and sinus, afrin, and I would take nyquil at night. Hope you feel better soon!

I love Advil to bits, but what's on the shelves is not nearly enough. I wonder if I should see if my doctor can write me up some of that "meth version" though! lol

  • Mucinex!  I swear by the stuff.  It's amazing.  The fact that it's okay to take (maybe even helpful) while TTC was great news for me.  It's the ONLY thing that gets rid of my wild sinus impactions.  It ain't pretty while I'm taking it (lots and lots and lots of kleenex are involved), but it thins the mucus enough to actually get it OUT of my head and chest.

And hot showers.  Although it sounds like a cold shower might be what you're needing!

Sorry you're so sick--just sucks.  Boo.

I have no idea what's good and what isn't during the 2WW, in my experience, even with the most awesome stuff on the shelves, I'll be sick for a week or two and even then, sometimes I get put on antibiotics, which is another mess altogether (they never work, and my doc keeps switching me to something else)

I tried temping (I temp vaginally) but my temps are WAY too high in the mornings. I got something like 86.6 the other day, and 99 today so, I don't think I can temp for a while this time. I haven't used a mouth thermometer in years though. I have the BBT (vag use only) and then another one that works in the ear.

The Tylenol does nearly nothing for me anymore, so now I'm resorting to a light mix of whatever the pharmacist suggested. I think right now it's Benylin Complete and Advil Cold and Sinus, sometimes some cough syrup and a lot of nose sprays!

Thanks! Being sick sucks, but it'll go away eventually, right?! lol

Mucinex isn't good enough for my nose. I have a spray that helps (Nasonex, cortizone based because my doc says my nose is a warzone when I'm sick) and I used the Sinus Rinse stuff. Really flushes everything out, despite how odd it feels.

I don't like cold showers, but I took a hot bath yesterday and it felt great!

Nothing OTC will get rid of anything at most it will mask symptoms. If it is bacterial, then you need an antibiotic. If it is viral, you have to let it run its course. Nothing will get rid of a viral infection but time.

So true, that makes total sense as to why nothing makes it go away! Although if they could at least relieve some of the symptoms, that would make my world a better place. I'm really hoping I don't have something bacterial again, because antibiotics and me don't mix well.

  • Looks like there have been some good suggestions already.  The only thing I was going to add, you just mentioned, which was the nasal lavage, so I just wanted to chime in and say I hope you feel better soon.  Oh ya, and I hope you get laid soon too!  We can't have a horny woman who's not getting any once your FW comes around!

Sinus rinse is the BEST!  It grosses some people out, but it makes me feel soooooo much better.  Here's hoping it's gone soon.  If it sticks around for 2 weeks, call your GP!

  • Hope you get to feeling better soon!
