So, I never had any issues with my blood pressure - I was always under 115 (top number... not sure about bottom). For the first 25 weeks of my pregnancy, I didn't go above 120. Then, all of a sudden, it kept going up and up each appointment. I developed hypertension and was put on bedrest at 38 weeks and then induced at 39 weeks.
Here I am 9 months later and when I went to my OB's recently, my BP was over 130.
Has anyone else had the experience that pregnancy causing high BP and then it staying high after? I was told by my OB that I would be monitored more closely when we had #2.
Re: Did anyone else have issues with blood pressure?
I started having issues with my blood pressure in my last pregnancy around 28 weeks. At my appointment it was reading anywhere between 130/85/90 and higher at 33 weeks (150/100). I was admitted to the hospital at 33weeks 3d and delivered my DD at 33w 4d. After delivery I was put on blood pressure medication, but only for 6 weeks.
This pregnancy I ended up buying myself a home blood pressure machine ($40) at Target and I take my pressures throughout the day (just for piece of mine). I'm actually been monitored weekly at the doctor's office for preterm labor and high blood pressure. So far knock on wood, I've only one or two high readings, in 130/80's.
Are you currently on any meds? Will your doctor put you on medication? I would ask how they plan to monitor you.
Just wanted to pitch in that we learned in school that 110-140 over 60-90 is considered normal. Granted, everyone is different and of course your docs know more than I do.
Yeah right now I'm in the upper normal range... I just thought it would go back down after LO was born and I lost most of my baby weight. When he was born, it was much higher than that.
This may sound like a stupid question, but I am going to ask anyways since we're at that point... how does a higher BP inter with TTC?
I developed PIH with my second due to the amount of weight that I put on. My short body couldn't take carrying the extra weight along with the baby. It wasn't that bad. The high number was at the most 138(which my sister tells me is a high normal) over 96. I was induced. It was fine and normal during labor and in recovery. However, when I went to my 6 week follow up, it was still a little high. I always get stressed out when they take my BP so she had me calm down and retook it. It was still a little high but she wanted me to come back in after a couple weeks to check. When I went back, it was normal.
With TTC, high BP doesn't really cause any problems with getting pregnant. It's the pregnancy that doctors worry about it since pregnancy can cause stress on the body.
