Hi ladies :-)
my DH and I (both 30) are waiting on results from his second SA (first one showed low motility). I've proactively made an appt to consult with a RE on March 7th. I've already had CD3 b/w and a TV u/s performed with normal results. I'm seeing my ob-gyn today to discuss having a HSG performed just to rule out blocked tubes.
My question is, will a RE make me repeat all of these tests? I honestly want to get all diagnosis procedures done now before meeting with him so we can walk away with a plan. From my Dr. Google research, low motility usually requires IVF and DH and I don't mind going that route if that will ensure the highest success rate (rather than do cycle after cycle of Clomid and IUI). Another factor for time is my insurance with IF coverage (including IVF and IUI) expires end of March so if it's inevitable we will need to go that route, I'd rather just jump into it while I have that coverage.
Second question: March 7th is looking like CD1 for me...not sure if it matters where I am in my cycle to begin any treatment or treatment can start right away. I may try to see if I can get an earlier date for a consult if the timing may be blown for March.
Thanks you all so much in advance. I usually post on GP board but wanted to jump in here to ask some of my IVF-related questions. Good luck to everyone!
Re: Intro and a question on IVF
As long as the tests happened within the last year the RE shouldn't make you repeat any of them. And as for treatment cycles, it usually does start with CD1 (although I guess you don't usually go in for baseline until CD2 or CD3, so there might be a little wiggle room). But even if you have a consult right before AF starts, if you end up doing IVF it's highly unlikely that you'd get to start that cycle. I don't know about IUI because we didn't qualify for it, but for IVF there's also a whole panel of required STD testing and pre-natal testing they want done too (varicella, rubella, CF screening, Vitamin D).
Best of luck. I think you'll find this board to be an invaluable resource if you do go down the IVF road... FX that you don't have to!

We're hoping for the best from this second SA but have discussed what options we are comfortable with if it comes down to it

SAIF/PAIF Welcome
Thanks all for the welcome...I may lurk for now (as I don't have much to contribute at this time) before finding out if I do belong on this board or not!
Welcome to the board! My RE had my DH repeat a SA at his clinic even though he already had one done previously. I had to have a HSG. Our clinic also recommended genetic testing.
As far as timing for IVF, it would depend on what protocol your RE chooses and how it is billed to insurance. My protocol began on cycle day 22 and then the whole process took about another 30 days to complete through ER and ET.
Good luck!
