  • How long were you in labor? I was induced, a total of 7 hours from start to finish!

How long did you push for? 45 minutes, DS decided he was going to try and come out through my hip instead of straight down and I was way too numb to push properly

Any pain meds? epi, they ended up turning it off because I could not feel if I were pushing hard enough or not

Did you tear or have an episiotomy? If you tore, how bad? I had an episiotomy and its a good thing they did it, because one push after the dr did it he came right on out :)

How big was baby? 7lbs 4oz

Any issues that came up during delivery? None really, I had to wear O2 while I was pushing becuase every push it got black, again that was because I was so numb and was not pushing the right way.

Good Luck with your vaginal delievery!

  • I had a med-free homebirth.

I had my first contraction on a Thurs. night. (I hadn't had any until that point...no BH, nothing.) Every time I got up to pee that night I had another. When I woke on Friday morning, I lost my MP and had bloody show. I was also continuing to to have contractions so I knew I was heading into active labor.

I ran errands that morning. I then had a light lunch and labored all afternoon. At about 5 pm I threw up and told DH to call the midwife to tell her to come over (we'd been in contact all day). Looking back, I am sure the throwing up was the beginning of transition.

At around 7:30 I declared I wanted to go to the hospital because I couldn't do it anymore. My midwife gave me my first and only internal and I was 10 cm.

I didn't really start pushing for another hour (it took that long for me to have the urge). J. was born just after 10:30 pm, which means I pushed about 2 hours.

Long story short: He was born about 24 hours after my first contraction. But really, I was only working hard for about 6 hours.

I did tear (no idea what degree, never asked). My midwife allowed me to decline stitches as long I agreed to not climbing any stairs for 2 weeks. I agreed.

    J. was just over 7 lbs. The only issue (which probably was part of the reason I pushed so long) was that he had a hand up by his head.

How long were you in labor?

    #1: 17 hours

    #2: 12 hours - the last 5 hours I was on pitocin

How long did you push for?

    #1: 3 hours

    #2: 40 minutes

    Any pain meds?

    None either time.

Did you tear or have an episiotomy? If you tore, how bad?

2nd degree tear with both.  I believe 8 stitches both times as well.

    How big was baby?

    #1: 7 lb 3oz

    #2 7 lb

Any issues that came up during delivery?

    No issues.

  • imageMattel:

How long were you in labor? From the first noticeable contraction to birth, about 13 hours.

How long did you push for? About 1/2 hour

Any pain meds? Epi was my friend, even though it was not fun getting it in.  I was having hard contractions and the anesthesiologist kept telling me "arch back like cat".  Not so easy to try to curl into a ball when you have a belly that size and are having a contraction!  After it was in the first time I could still feel tingling on one side so they redid it.  I laid there and happily ate popsicles after it kicked in, though.

Did you tear or have an episiotomy? If you tore, how bad?  I tore and got stitches.  I don't know how to qualify "how bad" because my doctor did not say anything like "You have a 3rd degree tear here" or anything like that, but he definitely had to stitch me up.

How big was baby? 7 lbs. 11 oz. 20" long

Any issues that came up during delivery? My delivery itself went well.  The nurses had a hard time getting my IV in, they tried 4 different places which caused me to have some awesome bruises for weeks.  My placenta did not deliver like it should have after birth.  The doctor had to yank it out and I had to have IV antibiotics for 12 hours.

  • How long were you in labor?  Technically 17 hrs

How long did you push for? 2.5 hrs

    Any pain meds?  epi

Did you tear or have an episiotomy? If you tore, how bad?  I chose not to have an episiotomy.  I tore very badly.  Lots of stitches inside and out.

    How big was baby? 7lb7oz

Any issues that came up during delivery? Only thing that came up was DD didn't tolerate the pitocin.  After less than an hour her HR dropped like a rock and we had an emergency situation for a few minutes while the nurse frantically cut off the pitocin, and reached inside to massage DD to get her HR back up  I kept dilating on my own after that, and had forgotten all about it until recently.  By the time she was born, she was all that mattered :)

  • How long were you in labor?  Active labor for 9 hours.

How long did you push for? About an hour and 45 minutes.

Any pain meds? I had an epidural, but it didn't work.  I found out I could go med-free so that's what I'm doing this go round!

Did you tear or have an episiotomy? If you tore, how bad? My doctor doesn't really do many episiotomies unless there's an emergency.  I had a 2nd degree tear, but it really wasn't that bad at all.

How big was baby? 8lbs 3oz, 21 1/4 inches long

Any issues that came up during delivery? There was meconium in the fluid so the NICU nurses had to be present and they had to suction her before she took her first big breath.

  • How long were you in labor? I'd say about 12 hours, counting active labor only.

How long did you push for? 20 minutes.

    Any pain meds? Epidural, baby!

Did you tear or have an episiotomy? If you tore, how bad? Yes, I tore. 2nd degree. I took no pain relievers once I left the hospital and used the Dermoplast only for a week afterward. It did royally suck when I wiped instead of using the peri bottle, though... :x

How big was baby? 8lbs 1.1 oz

Any issues that came up during delivery? Nope. The epidural was a dream, pushing wasn't terrible, and couldn't feel the stitching afterward. The worst part for me was the IV in the back of my wrist. And if I happen to have the same nurse who tells me "You're doing so well; I think you could go without the eipdural," I may or may not issue a cvntpunch.

How long were you in labor?

20 hours. Water broke, didn't start contracting, went to hospital and was put on pitocin almost immediately.

How long did you push for?

    45 minutes

    Any pain meds?

    Epidural

Did you tear or have an episiotomy? If you tore, how bad?

3d degree tear. Not as bad as it sounds.

    How big was baby?

    8lb

Any issues that came up during delivery?

DS' heartrate was decelerating with every contraction because his cord was getting pressed between his head and the wall of the uterus, in part because I had lost a lot of my water. They wound up inserting a catheter into my ute to push in more fluid and let him "float" more and stop mushing his cord. This allowed me to keep laboring and ward off a c-section. I was also dilating very slowly so they kept threatening a c-section, but I kept begging for one more check and because I progressed with each check, they let me keep going and I was able to get him out the vag.

How long were you in labor? I was induced so basically from 8am until 5pm. I did go in the night before for cervical ripening, and they broke my water, started pitocin and got things going right at 8am!

How long did you push for? Maybe 30 minutes.

Any pain meds? Heck yea! The night I spent in L&D while I was getting ready was interesting. I heard some screaming a couple times and my nurse would pop in and say "natural delivery" and leave:)

Did you tear or have an episiotomy? If you tore, how bad? Episiotomy with 5 stitches. Wasn't a big deal.

How big was baby? 8 lb 2 oz

Any issues that came up during delivery? I had an amazing labor and delivery experience and didn't feel any pain until the fundal massage. That sucked. And then I had some major bleeding and clotting so I got 40 minutes more of that stupid massage and some medications inserted into my rectum, um, not cool! lol. But I was fine and got to hold baby at 9pm. It was a rough few hours though.

How long were you in labor? Water broke at almost midnight, contrax began around 4am, DD born at 3:18pm

How long did you push for? 35-40 mins

    Any pain meds? No

Did you tear or have an episiotomy? If you tore, how bad? I tore. I did not ask how badly and although I know I had stitches, I do not know how many. Call it self-preservation, but I think knowing would have made it worse.

How big was baby? 7 lb 14 oz

Any issues that came up during delivery? None for us, I showed up via ambulance to the ER just in time to push.

  • How long were you in labor? From the time my water broke to the time I had DS it was a total of 13 hrs.

How long did you push for? 3.5 hrs

Any pain meds? Epi, but I think it wore off or didn't work right.

Did you tear or have an episiotomy? If you tore, how bad? I had an episiotomy.  It wasn't that bad.  The Dr asked before doing it and held off until that was the last thing stopping DS from coming out.

How big was baby? 7 lbs 9 oz.

Any issues that came up during delivery? DS was sunny side up so he kept getting stuck on my pelvic bone.  They had to use the vacuum and maneuver him through that area.  They held off on doing it but after 3 hrs of pushing the Dr decided to help out a little.

  • How long were you in labor? About 4 hours- induction at 42 weeks

How long did you push for? 30 minutes

    Any pain meds? Epi

Did you tear or have an episiotomy? If you tore, how bad? Had an episiotom which became a 3rd degree tear. I consented because his heartrate dropped and didnt rebound. He was born the next push.

How big was baby? 9 pounds 7 ounces

Any issues that came up during delivery? Weird reaction to the epidural. It made me loopy like iv drugs would. I really don't remember much and it probably contributed to why I needed the episiotomy since I couldn't push effectively enough. Took about 2 hours to feel normal again once DS was born. I'm trying to go med free to avoid a repeat this time.

  • How long were you in labor?  that I could feel- about 4.5 hours

How long did you push for? 1.5 hours

Any pain meds? none, just an IV in my arm to keep me hydrated

Did you tear or have an episiotomy? If you tore, how bad? I tore...it wasn't too bad, but I did need stitches- but I didn't really even feel them...I saw the needle but it didnt hurt.

How big was baby? 7 lbs 1 oz

Any issues that came up during delivery? none...I just started pushing when they told me I still had a 'lip' left on my cervix...I didnt have the urge to push right away, I just wanted him out.  If they tell you there is a teeny bit left, save yourself and dont push until you REALLY feel the urge!

  • How long were you in labor?

Non-stop, intense contractions every 5-10 mins ~ 4 days  (I was in intense prodromal labor during this time.  I declined any induction methods.)

Active labor in the hospital ~ 28+ hours

How long did you push for?

    20ish minutes

    Any pain meds?

Enh.  A non-working epidural after 24 hours at the hospital.

Did you tear or have an episiotomy? If you tore, how bad?

    No tear.  Party!!!

    How big was baby?

    8lbs 4 oz.

Any issues that came up during delivery?

Anesthesiologist was in surgery after my epidural was put in place.  Thus, I was stuck in bed for 4 hours with no physical way to get through transition.  Fun times. Zip it!   Minor issue in the grand scheme of things.  However, I am even more staunch in not getting one this time around.  I figure I made it through last time.

Did you tear or have an episiotomy? Episiotomy

Any issues that came up during delivery?   She dislocated my tailbone on the way out and it hurt more than labor afterwards.

  • From water breaking to delivery was just under 30 hours, three hours of pushing, I had an epidural, but they made we wait for it to wear off to finish pushing (30 minutes pushing with epi, then a break to wear it off, then another 2.5 hours drug free), I had both an episiomoty and I tore (I think 3rd degree, I couldn't drive for 2 weeks), my son was 7 lbs 2 oz, I have an odd shaped pelvic bone which might attribute to my difficult labor, I was going to ask for a c section if I had pushed 40 minutes longer (midnight was my quitting time - I later found out it was my Dr.'s quitting time as well)

How long were you in labor? From 1st contraction to baby out, 24 hrs and 21min.

How long did you push for? 25min

    Any pain meds? Nope

Did you tear or have an episiotomy? If you tore, how bad? 1st degree tear, had about 6 stitches, which isn't bad, but it took a while to heal properly.

How big was baby? 7lb 6oz

Any issues that came up during delivery? None

  • labor - 15 hours

pushed for 2 hours.  DS was turned so I think that is why it took longer.

    pain meds - yes!

    episiotomy

    DS was 8lbs. 4 oz

the only issue was that DS was turned to the side instead of looking down like they want.

  • How long were you in labor?  From first contraction until delivery it was 29 hours. The doc at the hospital lacked bedside manners and when I first went in (a week overdue) he told me I 'was not in labor' so I went home, and was throwing up in the shower, freaking out that if I was not in labor what was happening, and what would labor be like... for a FTM that sucked. If he had just said you're in early labor, go home to be comfortable, it would've been a whole other feeling! I'm still bitter Tongue Tied

How long did you push for? I don't remember! But I don't think it was very long.

    Any pain meds? epi

Did you tear or have an episiotomy? If you tore, how bad? I had a 3rd degree tear, stitched inside and out. The tear didn't hurt, but by the time they got to the stitches it did.

How big was baby? 8 lbs, 20 inches

Any issues that came up during delivery? DD swallowed meconium so she was taken to the NICU right away, and I guess during the commotion they lost the umbilical cord back inside me and had to get it. I wouldn't have even known what they were doing, but I think thats why meds wore off before the stitched me.

  • How long were you in labor?

I started feeling contractions about 10pm. I decided we should head to the hospital about 1am since they were consistent and I tested positive for GBS.

DD was born the next day at 1:04pm.

How long did you push for?

    1 hr 45 minutes

    Any pain meds?

Epidural although it wore off towards the end

Did you tear or have an episiotomy? If you tore, how bad?

Tore internally and had a few stitches

    How big was baby?

    8lbs 1oz - born at 40 weeks + 2 days

Any issues that came up during delivery?

I spiked a fever while pushing but was close to delivering otherwise I think I may have ended up with a c-section.  DD's head was turn sideways so that is why I pushed for a while.
