Transition from RnP to Crib

Has anyone transitioned from a Rock n Play to a crib?  My DD sleeps for 9-11 hours straight at night in her rock n play, but wakes up after just ten minutes or so if we lay her flat.  I think she likes feeling snuggled, but she refuses to be swaddled.  Has anyone else gone through this?  How did you make the transition?

Re: Transition from RnP to Crib

  • Why switch? My DS slept in his swing for that same reason. We started transitioning him at nap time only at about 5 months. Then by 6 months he started sleeping in his crib at night. I've found when I do things on his time rather than mine transitions are easy.

This.  I would use the RnP until you can't any longer!  With DS2 I was so sad when he hit the weight limit.  He always slept his best in there.  I always start transitions with naps, since they are naturally shorter in duration anyway (and it will be less likely to create a sleep deprived LO).  If you really feel compelled to transition, I would put the crib on blocks (so it is at least a little inclined) and start LO in there at night.  When she wakes, put her in the RnP for the rest of the night.  You should eventually see her acclimating and the crib sleep will get longer in duration.  Expect wakings whenever you are trying something new.
