If you don't mind sharing, that is.
With my first two, we paid nothing.
With this next baby, I think we will end up paying $3k or so. I am really disappointed and surprised. So, now I'm wondering how out of the norm, if at all, that is.
ETA: My first two were vaginal deliveries, so I am expecting the third will be as well.
Re: How much did you pay out of pocket to have your DC?
DD 1/29/07 -
I think you were very fortunate with the first two!
For B, it was around $2k.
For N, it was about $400, then our OOP was met
For E&G, it was about $6K, total (OR for delivery, NICU time, one extra day for me- they were born the 2nd day). And different insurance. that is our MOOP/yr.
I think it was $250 for DD1. $200 copay for the hospital and then $25/day after the 2nd day. I had a c-section so I was there for 4 days. Everything else was covered.
I *think* it was something similar with DD2 - a hospital co-pay and then a daily hospital fee.
Both times I had an insurance plan with co-pays. Now I have an HSA, so up until something like $3k, I would pay out of pocket.
Charlotte Ella 07.16.10
Emmeline Grace 03.27.13
We paid our co-pay ($10-25) and then a fee for cable (less than $10) -- all vaginal, 2 were induced, no epi.
Total for prenatal care and c/section with 4 nights in the hospital was about $3,000 for each kid.
DS - December 2006
DD - December 2008
About 5K for our first because we went out of network so I could deliver at the better hospital. Our second was about $300. Both were scheduled c-sections.
$25 for the initial pregnancy copay with each.
$250 for the rest of the pregnancy, c/s, hospital stay, per kid.
A few more dollars for cable in the room.
DD2 11.17.08
We paid between $4K and $5K out of pocket for the girls - that's our out-of-pocket max for the year. DH's company "self insures" so they give you the first $1500 or so of your deductible (so technically our deductible is closer to $6K but they pay the first portion. Then we have an out of pocket max of about $7K, I think). It also pays well-visits 100%, but then they have a huge deductible. They do have a lower deductible plan but it's cheaper for us to do the high deductible and then take pre-tax dollars and put them in DH's HSA than it is to do the lower deductible with how much it costs. For DS, we paid closer to $8K-$9K because I had preterm labor that included a hospital stay, steroid shots and extra OB visits in December of 2009 (counting against our 2009 deductible) but then he wasn't born until January 2010 (counting against our 2010 deductible). I thought I was going to throw up when I got those hospital bills. Luckily, hospitals will work with you and give you a no interest payment plan if you call them up and talk to them about it. We just used the money as it went into DH's HSA (I can't remember which kind it is, but DH's rolls over from year to year but you cannot borrow ahead.) It took over a year to pay off DS's bills.
ETA - All three were vaginal births but c-sections wouldn't have cost any more because we reached our out of pocket max. I did have an epidural for the girls, but not for DS so he was a little cheaper for the actual delivery but since my/his care spanned two years that killed us.
With DD, we had double coverage and paid nothing. (awesome!) With DS we paid a little under $1000. (only had DH's coverage)
#1 nothing, amazing insurance
#2 about $2,000 with okay an 80/20 insurance plan
#3 will just be my $200 deductible, everything is covered 100%

That however would have been totally different for DS had we changed insurance a few months earlier. We have far less coverage now (thank you again dickwad outsourcing to "cheapen" labor). We are on COBRA to go to yet another health insurance company. No idea what it will be. Fun!
Christmas 2011
For DS, I just had to pay a $25 co-pay for all prenatal care (even if there were multiple providers), including my CVS at 12 weeks, then a $200 co-pay for the hospital (didn't matter if it was c-sec or vag delivery since we weren't paying a % of the cost). But, we were paying COBRA at $1700+/month during that pregnancy, so it probably would have been cheaper to pay out of pocket!
For DD, there was one $15 co-pay for all prenatal care, then I think we paid 10% of the hospital bill. The contacted rates with the insurance company knocked the hospital bill from ~$9K to $2K, so our portion was $200 and change. That was for a full term vaginal delivery with no complications.
I can't remember for sure, but we had an 80/20 plan, with a max oop of 2k I think? Unfortunately my pregnancy was split between two calendar years, so I met the oop max in 2009, and had to start back over in 2010.
Eta: didn't hit oop in 2009, but did in 2010 because I was admitted several times for bp issues, then had csection. Still had to start back over in 2010, so what I had paid in 2009 didn't count to oop max.
We have an individual plan that does not cover maternity. DD was about $4000 and DS was $3000.00
Mine were both vaginal with no epi. I did have an extra night stay with DD.
Yes, DH has switched jobs. He is still working in the same field and working for the same type of company, but it seems they are cutting back. We have a $2k deductable and then pay 20% of incurred costs after that. I also pay a $30 copay for office visits, which I have never paid before.
Our insurance was 90/10 (so we paid 10% of the total bill with a max cap of $3500).
With DD, we paid the max cap of $3500 (C-section with no complications). With DS we paid $1900 (VBAC with no complications).
$50 copay for both.
And both were c-sections. Joey's birth alone - not including anything for him after the birth - was close to $12k. I paid $50.
My SIL paid $3k for her first since her insurance, at the time, only covered 80%. Her 2nd and 3rd were just the $50 copay as her insurance changed and was 100% after the initial copay.
T=$15
A=$100
M=$500
We quit after that....getting too expensive! LOL! I remember complaining about the $500..guess it isn't THAT bad!
6 days total hospitalization for me and c-section, plus 3 day hospital stay for dd= $300 copay. we have excellent insurance, thank god. two $15 co-pays to the ob, one at each of the first two visits. and $125 out of pocket for the ob to collect cord blood. also, $15 lab co-pays each time i had bloodwork or gd testing done. all in all, about $600 total
$250 for DS. $1100 (I think?) for DD.
Both were vag deliveries with no medication/epi.
With Jackson, roughly $5k.
With Scarlett, $10. It was like a sale on babies!
ETA: I had c/s with both of them. Scarlett's was scheduled, Jackson's was after a long labor. With Scarlett, it didn't matter how I had her, I paid $10 for the entire pregnancy and associated costs. With Jackson, it was something like a copay (can't remember what exactly) plus 20% of the total bill, and I had him the most expensive way possible (labor then c/s).
For DS2 we paid around $5,000 and it was a planned c-section.
