Does anyone use this technique for discipline? I just downloaded it for our Nook and it seems to make sense so far, but just wondered if anyone uses it. I kind of hate to become one of those parents that counts at their kids, but T is in a phase of not listening to a word I say, so I feel like I need to do something.
Today she was purposely kicking me as she was saying "I'm very upset, so I am going to kick Mommy, because I want to." Not sure where to start with that?!
Re: 1, 2, 3 Magic
I have no advice, but I'm sorry she's putting you through this.
And I'm happy you guys had safe travels!

I don't post here much (I keep forgetting to check this board!) and I don't have a toddler yet obviously, but I just wanted to say that the SAHM board swears by 123 Magic. I've seen it recommended over and over again, so I figure it must work!
Also, Love & Logic gets recommended a lot as well. Hope things get better for you!
I'm a HUGE fan of 1,2,3 Magic. I have a student this year with severe behavior issues and the parents use this at home. I read the book and started using it in the classroom. It's really great. It's really common sense based. You explain appropriate behavior and when your child is being inappropriate you calmly "count" them. If/when you get to 3 they have a timeout. You have to be very consistent, don't give in, but it totally works!
Counting gets a bad rap because so many parents count but then have no follow through, this is cut and dry. You do something wrong, you get counted. You get to 3, you get a time out. Kids like predictability!
