Gripe water?

I keep reading that it doesn't do jack, but with how gassy and uncomfortable my little guy has been lately I'm at my wits end. Anyone have any positive results from using gripe water? Or is it just a placebo to make inexperienced FTMs like myself feel like they are doing something to help their LO? :)

Re: Gripe water?

  • I have gripe water here at my house... It has worked for us, as it has a soothing effect on ds. Honestly I have heard for some people it works an for others it doesn't. Just like the gas drops... They don't really do much for ds. I say try it out

  • we use Mommys Bliss gripe water. It does calm my ds down. Some days he's really bad and I don't know what I would do without it. I keep one bottle at home and one in my diaper bag.

This is the brand DH just brought home. Hopefully it works for us!

  • Gripe water worked for me as a baby (so says my Mum) but seemed to not really work for my LO. Gas drops worked better. Good luck!

All of this for me too.  I still have a bottle of gripe water in our fridge, but we haven't used it in several weeks.

  • We also have Mommy's Bliss and like it. It has definitely helped on several occasions - I think it soothes the stomach (ginger &fennel). But maybe if thats not what is bothering LO it won't work

ETA: I have seen other post about a different brand (not sure which one), but it is the only "FDA approved" one. However, it also contains charcoal and is black?! IDK, even though Mommy's bliss isn't FDA approved I feel more comfortable giving my LO ginger & fennel rather than charcoal....

  • Mother's Bliss works great for us, better than gas drops even!  I just used up the last little bit and sent DH out for more.

  • We used Colic calm-- LO loved the taste and it worked pretty well for the most part. Now we rarely use it though because it seems that now that he is sleeping better through the night his colic has somewhat subsided
  • We use Mommy's Bliss. He seems to have less gas than when we started, but I have no idea if that's the gripe water or just his digestive tract maturing.

The best use we have found for it is that one dropper full of it instantly stops his hiccups, without fail.  It's like magic.  (Embarrassingly, I even tried it myself for kicks once when I had hiccups, but of course it didn't work.)

You're talking about Colic Calm--it's vegetable carbon that they have in it, and it's the secret ingredient. It "attracts" the gas bubbles like a magnet, and then it all passes thru baby, relieving your LO of pain. You can read about vegetable carbon here--scroll down the ingredient list until you get to it:

  • I like it.  :)  We have used both gas drops and gripe water... I think gripe water works better for us... Speaking of it, I need to get some more as I ran out!  Geeked
