Is relief instant with the Maternity Belt? (SPD)

Am heading to get a maternity belt, and just curious about whether I should expect the pain in my hips to be relieved instantly or if it takes some time. I figure if it should be instant and I don't find relief, then I don't want to waste the money. On the other hand I also wouldn't want to buy one that costs twice as much if the one for $18 will work...What was your experience like? TIA!

  • I got the Mom-Ez for $60 cdn and have noticed a difference after just 2 days. It is more a brace with rigid boning in it rather than just a belt. Make sure you get something specific for hips and not a cheap one that just holds the belly up.

  • I tried 2 different ones (BRU & Boppy brand), but I ended up returning them both because they weren't very effective.  Both felt great for a little while, but each one bunched up under my belly which was uncomfortable, so I was constantly redoing the velcro, & looked bad under my clothes.  Maybe with a higher quality belt you'll have better luck.
  • I got one through our local medical supplier, since our insurance covers 85% off the cost. For me I got it because of my sciatic nerve, when it really starts to bother me and I put it on it doesn't completely take the pain away but it is much better! I definitely think that it is well worth getting.

  • My baby wouldn't let me wear one.  I was having terrible sciatica and was hoping for it to help.  The times I've tried she has kicked me like crazy until I feel dizzy.  Hope it works for you though!  It's worth a try!

  • I got the Mini Cradle belt from Amazon....my belly isn't that big so I figured I'd try it and then upgrade to the more rigid style when I do get bigger. For the last month I have had horrible SPD. I've found that the belt with physical therapy, being cognizant of not being weight bearing on one leg, trying not to do too many hip abduction movements and doing Kegels/pelvic floor muscle exercises has really helped me bet the past 10 days. My pain is almost non-existent now except during the night when turning over ( even with my knees together!) and when I forget and bear weight on one leg!

Hope that helps...know the pain and it sucks!

  • I wore the Prenatal Cradle until my SPD diagnosis.  Now I wear the $30 back brace from BRU.  It's pretty wide.  But I wear it around my hips, not my belly, to suck them in.

No, not at all instant.  It doesn't HURT, but I'm not really sure it's helping.

  •  I bought one from motherhood maternity for $36. I notice a huge difference wearing it. The pain isn't completely gone, but it has eased up a ton. It is still terrible trying to turn over at night though. For me, it was completely worth the money.
  • My doc recommended this one from vitamedMD

Just ordered it ao I haven't tried it but she says her patients say it helps while it doesn't cost a lot
