I'm at my wits end! (FB smell) anyone?

I have 30 OS Fuzzibunz.

My problem is not with the diapers, but a smell. It's a new smell and it is pissing me off.

I ran out of rockin' green, so I used tide free and clear, to wash my diapers twice. The first time was good. No problems. Second time - they stink!

I'm not sure how to explain the smell.. kind of musty?

Went to my local CD lady, I bought more rockin green, and took a diaper, she said I didn't do anything wrong, just use more soap. Also gave me country save said to wash half the diapers with it, tried it, still smell. So I went ahead and used the diapers because they arent causing a rash or her to be uncomfortable.

I washed them today used 6 scoops of rockin green.. 6!

cold soak 15 mins, Hot wash, Cold rinse.

Still smelled..

8 scoops..8! Cold rinse, hot wash, cold rinse.

Still smell.

My entire garage literally smells like the diapers when I dry them.

What do I do? What is next?

That's a lot of detergent, even for Rockin' Green. I have a few FBs and other pockets in my stash and every now and then I take my all of them and flip them inside out and wash them. It seems to help. I would flip them inside out, split the load into 2 loads and rinse a few times with no detergent, checking for bubbles. Then I would dry them in the dryer if at all possible, otherwise, hand in the sun if you can.

When I do a soak with Rocking Green, I usually just add extra per the instructions ( I want to say, 3 TBSPs) and soak overnight in hot. I don't know that a 15 soak in cold would work as well.

I would try stripping them and see if that helps. I think your laundry deterrent switch might have messed things up. I know some people will say dot strip unless you have repelling issues but when I had stink issues from using a different washer on vacation stripping got my diapers back to smelling normal!

I'd either strip with Dawn or bleach 'em (1/4 cup bleach in a hot wash with detergent).

And 8 tbsp of soap is just too much. That's not going to help anything.

I rinsed and rinsed and now they don't stink.

Now I'm going back to 2 tbls.

I'm glad you found a solution. I've heard that "free and clear" detergents cause build up on diapers, so I would stay away from it. Seeing as your solution was to rinse a ton, that is probably what happened.
