Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Sleep training question.. advice needed please.

My LO was up anywhere form 5-10 times a night, sleepng in the PNP next to me. Just this week I couldnt take it anymore ( we are in the process of looking for a bigger place so she doesnt have a room yet.) so I moved my two year old into our room and had him sleep on a mattress on the floor and moved her into his room. She seemed much better right away not waking as frequently. I put her to bed at 7 and then I dreamfeed her at 11 before I go to bed and she has been waking up only once screaming at 330. Should I be feeding her again at this time? Or letting her CIO?  I obviously would love for her to STTN but I am quite ok feeding her twice as it is much better than being up 5-10 times. Any advice on what I should do for that 330 wake time?  And..should I continue the dreamfeed at 11? Thanks!!

  • Yeah....i finally had to stop sleeping in the same room as DD b/c i figured out that i sometimes woke her b/c the bed made noises when i moved. anyway...i personally only did CIO for bedtime and when DD was actually waking up crying, i would feed her (not simply making noises, etc....i didn't bother her then...also i would get her bottle ready and sometimes she would be back asleep and done crying so i didn't proceed to feed her). she has just turned 6months and finally dropped her last nighttime feeding a couple of weeks ago. I wouldn't let her CIO if she really is crying alot at his age because she might really be hungry...it's a different story for older ones. Unless there's just no way she could be hungry, i woudn't feed her. DD has woken a couple of times and i didn't bother her b/c it hadn't even been 3 hours since she had a big feeding (except a couple times where i could tell she was scared b/c she screamed vs. loud crying---i didn't feed her then, just picked her up and comforted her and set her back down to go to sleep)....anyway, i hope i made since i should really be getting to bed!! although DD sleeps through the night, she wakes at 6 or 6:30am!! agh!

  • i just saw that your baby is only 1 month?? is that accurate?? if so, are you breastfeeding. when my DD was that age and i was breastfeeding, i fed her ALL throughout the night...i think that's just the was it goes sometimes. if this is the case, definitely just go ahead and feed her no matter what if she wakes up crying..in my opinion. a6 month old is a different story in my opinion

It says one month until the baby's birthday : )

If you are okay with getting up, then get up. If your baby is legitimately hungry, which they certainly may be, then getting up to feed them is fine!

  • I've kept the feed before I go to bed and the 3 or 4 am feed. I'm okay with it, he still likes it. It's really up to you.
  • Hey I had the same problem. Of course every baby is different but I dreamfeed and plan on doing it until a year old.  If it helps her stay full then what does it hurt. Our LO would wake up at 2:30 crying after we did CIO and at first I got up to feed her but I started to add in some extra ounces during the day and decreasing some ounces at night until I knew she was just waking out of habit.  Then I let her CIO at 2:30 and she only cried for like 20 mins the first night and then the next night like 5 mins and now she doesnt wake up anymore in the night. If she does then I know something is wrong. Don't know if that helps, good luck:)
