Starting my Lovenox injections last night. Not as bad as I thought as far as the actual prick, but the burning sensation was weird. The nurses told me to expect that if I injected in my thigh (hey, it's got the most fat so...). I think I'm going to try pinching the abdominal area tonight but not sure how safe that will be going forward in the pregnancy? FWIW, the drug's website says to only inject in the abdominal area and not into any muscle.
Couple of questions:
Has anyone ever traveled w/ prefilled syringes or liquid medicine and syringes? Can I leave these in my carry-on or do I have to separate them out to be x-rayed? Would rather not request a visual screening if I can help it. Traveling to NY next week and D F W is usually more stringent than my return airport (unless Giuliani cuts in front of you in the line, whatevs).
And about disposal... these have a safety feature that pops up and encompasses the needle after it's been used. Do I still need a sharps container for disposal? What about while traveling? And what do I do with them to actually dispose them after that?
Re: The joys of Lovenox - syringe questions
Here is the link for the TSA on travelling. Not sure about disposal....
I will tell you that you cannot drop off a sharps container at any hospital for disposal. At least not at S t Da vids. We don't accept them. Biohazard is expensive to dispose of. Your doctors office may take them though.

DH has to take his container back to the Dr's office where he gets the needles. Do you have a small sharps container that you can travel with?
I still have my sharps container with all my used syringes from my IVF cycle this time last year.
The disposal instructions that came with it seemed to indicate you can just toss it in the garbage but I don't feel comfortable doing that. I've read Travis County has an annual drive where you can drop em off. Maybe they have something similar in DFW.
Check out the High Risk pregnancy board too lots of ladies do lovenox injections over there and may be able to give you some injection tips.

I always had to do my injections (different meds) in my butt. It sucked because then it hurt to sit or lay down!
As for disposal, we put the lids back on and then put them in a coffee can which is what my brother does this with his insulin needles. (I think, maybe I'm remembering wrong?) I had no idea we were supposed to take them back to the dr. :: embarrassed smiley that I can't do on a mac::
