Single Parents

Looks like i am going to have to quit my job:(

I am SOOOO upset and don't know what to do:( I am looking for suggestions...I am a single mom of three. Long story short, i have an 8 week old baby now, and had applied for daycare assistance through the state...in fact i was counting on that.  Luckily i have been able to bring her to work with me so far but my boss obviously does not want me to continue bringing her.  Got the bad news that i am not eligable for the daycare assistance and now i am facing a dilema...with the cost of childcare and gas i will be making about 20 bucks a week:(  I really like my job and don't want to quit but don't really see any other option! I guess i am going to have to find a waitress job somewhere and see if there is someone i can find for those hours to watch all three of my kids instead of having a job that i was able to drop them off in the morning and pick them up from school without childcare..Now i am going to have to find someone to pick up and watch all three of my kids...Who is gonna do that?!?!?!  UGH I am soo scared i am not going to have any way of buying any diapers/wipes, gas to get my kids to school and everything else that you just need to get by:( I am just sooooo sad and frustrated...how can they say i am not eligable when i won't be making ANY money paying for it on my own:*(  I just wanna give up, but know i can't but have no clue where to go from here....SCARED AND ALONE, Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • I drove a school bus when my children were little.  They paid in PA starting $15/hr and they put a car seat on the bus for my LOs. I worked about 20-24hours a week.  I had the school days off, snow days off, and summers I was able to collect unemployment and get hired back in september. I was able to go to college fulltime dure the school day and the grants I recieved as a single mom paid for the on campus daycare for my youngest while I was at school.

  • I'm SO sorry. I'm in your shoes too, I found out today I don't qualify for daycare vouchers, I have him in daycare 2 days a week because some weeks I work 3 hours on thursday and some weeks I get 8 hours on friday :[

I pay more for daycare than I get paid by my job some months.

Do you at least get WIC benefits? It's not a ton but it does help me get by with food for DS, where if I didn't have it I'd be screwed.

My mom worked 3rd shift when we were kids. She would put us to bed and go to work then come home before we went to school, but she did have my dad with us at night, I'm not sure exactly your living situation or if you have family who can just sleep over while you're working.

I hope things can work out for you. :[ I'm so sorry that you have to be in this situation.

  • This is just a suggestion, but I used to work at a daycare, and employees were allowed to bring their children for a much smaller fee. It doesn't require much (here in PA) to be an employee at a daycare. Just child/criminal clearances. I know it wouldn't be your current job, but any little bit of money helps. And if you could bring your kids with you, that would be a huge plus.
