~*~Rosie~*~

Can you give me some info about A's viral rash from a couple weeks ago? I have a friend with something that seems really similar and her doc told her she isn't contagious but shouldn't be around pregnant women. That seems odd to me, either you are contagious or not, right? I thought you might have some input since he just went through it. Thank you and I hope A is feeling better.

Re: ~*~Rosie~*~

  • Butting in but it's probably fifths disease. Once the rash appears, it is no longer contagious. I remember I had a student that got it when I was teaching and pregnant but by the time I knew about it, she already had the rash. I called my dr. and they said that I was in a profession were I already had antibodies built up for it and I didn't need to worry.

If it were me and I were pregnant and knew someone who had the rash, I would probably stay clear just for a little while even though it's technically not contagious.

  • Thanks to both of you. I wonder why the docs didn't talk specifically about Fifth's. It sounds similar to what she is going through, though, and the rash looks exactly like the pic you posted, Rosie. I appreciate the input.
  • Some people call it slapped cheek disease...maybe that's what she was calling it?

According to my friend, they just said it was viral and didn't give it a name.
