getting through the final weeks...

How did you ladies survive the last few weeks??  I've got a little over 3 weeks until our goal of 38 weeks and I'm so incredibly uncomfortable and in a lot of pain.  I now know what some of you ladies meant when you couldn't walk at the end.

I am so grateful to have made it this far - DD2 was born at 33 wks 5 d and I was hospitalized at the beginning of January for PTL - and desperately want to avoid the NICU.

I'm currently at home on strict bed rest and really just struggling to make it through each day.  The boys looked great at my appt with the MFM on Monday (approximately 5 and 6 lbs respectively) and have rocked the NSTs.  At my OB appt yesterday I was 1/2 cm and this morning I lost more of my mucus plug.

How did you make it through those final days/weeks??  Thanks ladies.

  • Almost to 38 weeks...impressive.  You inspire me now!!   I'm already struggling at 30 weeks and can't imagine how I will feel at 34, 36 and 38 weeks.  There are days when I wish I did't work anymore and actually got mad at my doctor for not putting me on bed rest yesterday.

  • god i dont know.  seriously im almost 29 weeks and it takes me forever (and hurts) to roll from one side to the other in bed at night.  and you are over a month ahead of me!  at the end of the day i want to just collapse with exhaustion.  and i always think that there is no way i can take my son here or there the next day....but some how i manage to. dont know for how long though.

you are doing great.  you are 100% in the home stretch.  my husband has been giving me nightly feet massages - can your husband do that for you?  do your feet hurt?

my docs want me to go to 38 weeks too...how i will get there however remains a mystery!  good luck!

  • It's just awful.  My best advice is just to focus on getting to the next week. Be as nice as you can to yourself and give into to anything that you'd like.  Have someone bring you your favorite food, indulge in your favorite movies, etc.  I would have several bad days and then a good one which would keep me going.

Good luck and you are doing great. You'll be so happy to have nice big full term babies!

  • Well it looks like we are partners in crime here.  My boys were 5.8 and 5.9 last week and today I was 2cm.  I am soooooooo done, but know from past NICU exp, that it is best for the boys to stay put.  Everything hurts, walking, rolling over, you name it!!!  I just keep counting down the days like a child at Christmas.  Best wishes you to and hang in there. :)

  • I was on bedrest at 26 weeks and made it until 37 weeks 6 days at which time they induced me. All I can say is those last 5 weeks or so are miserable but it's so worth it. Come to think of it they are the definition of miserable. I had carpal tunnel on top of everything else. You will forget how bad it was though. Good Luck!

  • Oh, honey -- I SO feel your pain. I've been uncomfortable for awhile now... and I'll be 38 weeks on Sunday. I'm having the twins via c-section Monday (both have remained breech the ENTIRE pregnancy). Today is my last day of work & I couldn't be happier or more proud of myself... didn't think I'd be able to last this long! This last week has REALLY been Hell, though. If it sit for too long & get up... I feel like my crotch is about to fall out when I walk! *haha* Lots of what I believe to be round ligament pain. And, naturally every now & then I'll get a swift kick to the cervix that makes me just about pass out. But I've made it. Only two more days to get through & I'll be holding these little ladies.

I think what made me get through each day is having no choice. Besides working, I've got an almost 3y/o son & a 1y/o daughter to look after... so they kept me pretty busy & I think they helped me keep my mind off the pain. Sleeping's the worst part for me. I wake up just about every hour b/c when I turn over, I'm in so much pain... my stomach is so sore & my hips. I have a body pillow & that helps a little - but not much. And our daughter rarely sleeps through the night... so even though I may be sleeping well, I'll get woken up by her. UGH! I feel my sanity will surely be leaving me once these two are here. :)

  • I don't have much advice since I'm not there yet. But I just wanted to say that the nurse in L&D mentioned to me that the belly band they have at the hospitals that hold the monitors on you are great support. She told me to try sleeping with one on to help support when rolling over. Good luck, you'll make it!
  • Do the best you can to rest and be kind to yourself. Do whatever you have to to get through the day. Hang in there momma, it will be worth it!
