Ideally, how many kids do you want?

I had always thought 2-3.  We're currently TTC #2, and we've both pretty much agreed that #2 will be it for us.  Practicality and money win out for us.

    With two you can:

Divide and conquer - one parent per one child.

Fit in a standard car without siblings "touching."

Fit in a standard hotel room without "extras."

Pair up for rides/games/chores/whatever without things being uneven or someobody feeling left out.

(I know some of these don't really apply until the children are older, but that is still a consideration for us.)

I see all the advantages to two, but that may be because we've pretty much made our decision and I'm trying to see it in the best light possible.  Good luck!

These are all the reasons that my mind says 2, but my heart wants more. I just don't know if I can justify having more. We have such a good thing going now, and I honestly think I just want another because I miss having a "baby".

  • At this point I want one more. I am in the process of a divorce though so who knows what is going to happen in the future.

  • I'd like 3, but we'll see how 2 goes. DH would like 4 and we would prefer to adopt a slightly older child (not a newborn). But we will have to see what our situation is like before then.

  • We have 5 between us (1 mine, 3 his, 1 together- see siggy pic). I could see having 1 more in like 3-5 years but DH claims to be done. I told him if he is done than he needs to do something about that because I cannot confidently say I am done with 2 of my own. I am okay with him being done (since he has 4 biological children) as long as he gets snipped which at this point he has not done. He's a chicken. I am not okay with a permanent solution for myself at this point.

  • It makes me the most sense for me to be done with the two I have - I have one of each, I have horribly hard pregnancies, my age (34) etc. etc. But, I yearn for one more. We will probably start trying in the fall.
